bigcountry, Beartooth Bullets offers a booklet on cast bullets that is a wealth of information, as in how to make them shoot, believe me Marshal Stanton knows what he's talking about.
I'm shooting his bullets and followed his advice on diaimeter and a few other tricks and now I'm getting 1" and better 100yd groups. I was hopeing for 3" but this 1895 has far exceded that.
I'm hopeing to get started casting soon ,I have over 800 lbs of pure lead and another 5 gal bucket of wheel weights, also just picked up a Lyman casting pot at a yard sale for next to nothing.
If you're interested in that booklet I'll post you their ph# the email is www.beartoothbullets.com. I have been having problems getting on their site lately but that may be fixed now.
I shoot beartooth actually. Thanks,
I will check out there info.

Holy cow, I consider myself an advanced experienced reloader. And never knew casting was an entirely different discipline. I have been reading lymans quite a bit. I guess I need to quit reading about it so much and try it. I have to wait to get my gear. Instead of handloading where you can read and plan. This looks to be a technique that one has to do and see.
Right! It is an entirely different discipline. It is "bullet making", so you can use the bullets you make in handloading, the other discipline! IF you want a good source of info, I suggest the "Jacketed Performancewith Cast Bullets" book written by Veral Smith (LBT Co.-Lead Bullet Technologies).

RE: Bullet Casting

eldeguello, the difference that seperates the Beartooth bullets and the LBT bullets is that Beartooth will size your bullet order to fit your actual bore diameter, and it makes all the difference in the accuracy world!
I have some LBT .458 430 gr bullets that I shoot, but I had to shorten my 45/70 cases .060 before I could use these bullets in my Marlin, even then 3"-4" groups were as good as I could get. Beartooth 425 gr. sized .460 will work in standard length cases and I expect near 1" or better groups, my best so far is a group that measuered .444.
I wish I could tell you I can do that on a daily basis but no , 1" is not to hard to come by though.
By the way I'm talking 3 shot groups, because it's hard to stay focused for many rounds at this recoil level.

Well, plan on getting a lee melter, and plan on using a ladle to start out with. I found some dies from RCBS I want, along with lyman sizers.

Contact Lyman. I have bought a good bit of reconditioned, and blemished items from them over the years. I have bought 2 sizers from them. Quality on these items was always #1. Tom.

Head how far are you away from Mingo county? I will be coming down there for a week in Christmas to visit the family. Maybe you can give me a pointer or two.

Well, I go thru fairmont to get to mingo. But I don't think you want me stopping with a dog, and a baby and an angry wife wondering why we are stopping to watch someone cast bullets.
