No such thing as a stupid question. Stupid is not asking and having a case failure cause damage.
 I only neck size and generally have to trim after first and second time. I throw away after 5 firings just to be on the safe side. I have only tried rem and win brass. I felt win brass was superior. mello |

I agree with what Mello says for the most part: I do, however, trim after every firing....sometimes only taking off the slightest shaving, sometimes nearly nothing. It's just what I do. I also vote for the Win. brass. Can't see buying the high-priced stuff when I generally toss after 5 firings anyway. The win. brass seems a little more ductile to me.

ORIGINAL: stubblejumper It all depends on the chamber and die dimensions,the pressure that you load to,and the brass.It also depends if you neck size or full length size.If the chamber is on the large size,the brass will be worked more by the die,shortening it's life.If you load to higher pressures,brass life will be shorter.If the brass is soft,life will be shorter.If you neck size,brass life will usually be longer.I usually get 8 to 10 loadings out of my 22-250,yet only about 6 loadings out of my 300ultramag and 7mmstw brass.I usually trim after the first firing,then after every two or three firings. |

What are the deciding factors for the number of loadings. What indicators made you decide for 6 loadings for the 300 ultramag vs the 8-10 for the 22-250. |

I've had good service out of Starline and Remington brass. In my loads for my guns, Winchester brass seems to be somewhat more soft and need to be trimmed sooner. Don't know if others have had the same experience, just my two cents worth.
