First, thanks to everyone for answering all of my many questions!
Was finally able to shoot today. Took both 06s 1 bolt 1 semi-auto.
For the bolt I had 165 hornadysps loaded up with various loads from 54.54.5 ,55,55.5,56,56.5,57.57.5,58grns of IMR4350 ( i know 58 is hot) nothing realyy patterned well. 55 grains produced about a 2 in group.
On the other hand the semi auto I loaded same bullets with various loads of IMR4064 and I had beautifull 1.5 inch groups with 3 different loads.
I never tried any of the IMR4064 in the first gun. Didn't load enough.
Is one powder superior over another powder in certain calibers?

You will find that guns are individuals almost like people are. Just because a particular powder ( or bullet ) is supposed to work the best in a particular gun or cartridge does not always mean that it will. It may but then again you may have to try several different combinations to find out what that particular gun wants to shoot best. There are few cut-and -dried formulas that work all the time for all occasions in reloading. We love it!!!

I have a friend, I load for, and his model 70 270win only like 4064. Strange. We have tried 3 other powders and none shoots as well as IMR4064.

I'm not going to tell you all the many variations it can take in your reloading to find what each of them like. That would take the fun out of the discoveries that lie ahead of you. (And it might frighten you away from a rewarding hobby.) Some guns can be devils to get along with! And at the end of the day it may not be your loads at all...but a problem with the rifle's bedding or a loose screw on a scope.[&:]
As for 4064, it's been one of my more consistently accurate powders.
You will forever be learning. None of us know it all by a long shot. Your guns and your experiences will belong to you alone. Go forth.

Hang in there. Soon you will be like the rest of us. Lots of 3/4 full containers of powders and bullets that you just KNEW would work in a particular rifle. It takes a while sometimes and it does require an investment but I have not found a rifle yet that I couldn't ultimately get to shoot.
Check that action screw.

Yep, its not hard to get a 30-06 to shoot really good with either 4064 or 4895 (you'll usually find the sweet spot around 47-48 gr), you'll just have to give up a bit of performance that you could get out 4350.

I like 4064, it has worked well in all of the guns that I have tried it in, from 30-30, 270 and 308. I dont crono though, so I dont know how it performs velocity wise.

I always used IMR4350 in my '06 until one day at the range my friend let me try some of his rounds loaded with IMR4064. Its been my powder of choice since then. Good thing my 270 likes 4350.
