AR-15 vs. plastic tipped bullets.
Do plastic tipped bullets shoot well in an Ar-15? I have not had great luck with them so far. I wonder if the tips get banged around against the feed ramp during feeding.
Hollow points would theoretically be a little tougher.
What do you think?

My thinking has always been, I don't like anything that has the potential to come off in the chamber and cause a problem . Being it just a jam or some thing worse like head spacing problem , which can cause catastrophic failure to the barrel( and shooter ), but thats just me . I know theysay they are for better feeding in some firearm types. There are so many bullets out there for the AR that perform so well that don't have or need the "Ballistic Tip ", why bother . I use HP.BT.Match bullets in various weights and have no problems , feeding or functioning , with outstanding accuracy.

I shoot the Hornady 50 grain V-Max in my Rock River Varminter. I have shot about 200 rounds without the first problem. As far as accuracy is concerned, well below is a 300 yard target with Black Hill's ammo. Tom.

I shoot the 55gr Hornaday V-max out of my varmint upper, 5 shots were covered under a dime at 100 yds, very accurate, no failures to feed , no jams, Great Coyote killer!!!. If you are getting jams and messing up the tips on the feed ramp you might have magizine feed lip issues that the full jacket is covering up!.
