44mag load with cast bullit ?
My father in law just droped me off a couple hundred 250gr cast bullits with gas checks for my 44, problem is, my newest loading book that has cast bullit info is from 1970. Listed is; Bullseye, Unique, Herco, 2400, SR 4756, IMR4227, and AL8, my question is, does anyone have listings for HS-6, Blue Dot or Green Dot the powders I already have. I would experiment but my chrony took a dump and I dont want to try without it!,I dont need any high presure loads, just some good, accurate plinking loads. Thanks Tom

RE: 44mag load with cast bullit ?
I shoot 10gr of Unique with 240gr Semiwadcutter Trushot cast. Thats my accuracy load. I was told by oregon trail that I could go up to 11.6gr of Unique. They sent me a loading guide once which had the midrange powders like HS-6 in it. I will have to get the info when I go home. But I have tried HP-38 and know its close to unique for plinking. And for 240gr you can go up to 11gr. I wouldn't hesitate to go up to 10gr of HP-38 with 250gr cast.
I know that doesn't exactly answer your question. I am just not used to shooting 250gr in 44mag.

Devil Dog - My Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook shows 14.0 grs of Blue Dot as the starting load and 1,185 fps with 22,000 CUP pressure. Maximum Blue Dot load they list is 17.5 grs of Blue Dot for 1,440 fps and 35,000 CUP.
Blue Dot should work good and if you get a chance buy some 2400 for that pistol and start at 19 grs of 2400. That will give you around 1,200 fps and is well under max load.
