Default 7rum pressure question

I have success with 4831sc and 150spbt and would like to try it with 175gr bullets. I couldn't find any loads in by book or the hodgdon site so I found a comparable speed powder and loaded a couple rounds, 75gr min to 77g max, based on that. I'm using remington brass and 215m primers. Shooting a a 700bdl with a 26" barrel. Am I pushing my luck?

I'm not sure what the speed of one powder has to do with the powder charge to use of another . It doesn't sound like something I would want to do .

Halcon, I'm refering to the burn rate of the powder.

Well, specifically, what powder did you use? Just the "fact" that the burning rate is "comparable" to H4831SC is too general a description to know if your loads will indeed be safe!!!

Keep yore powder dry!!

Deep subject. Couldn't resist.

I shot those loads last week and survived. The conditions were less than perfect(very windy) but I shot them anyway. As my post states I was more concerened about pressure than accuracy. Though the accuracy was better than I had expected about 1.25" groups at 100yds. I think the fact I was shooting 175gr bullets helped.

There were no signs of pressure problems so I'll probably inch up until I see some then drop back. I'm concerened about barrel life as the other loads I have found that shoot best are at are near max.

If 1.25" groups was better accuracy than you expected you don't demand a lot of accuracy from your guns.

On a 35 degree day with winds gusting to 25mph and a load that I randomly picked the powder weight yes I'm happy with 1.25" groups. If you can find a load using H4831SC I'm all ears.

In the future, if you don't have anything productive to say, reply to someone else.

Actually h4831 has too fast a burn rate to get the most out of the 7mm rum especially with heavier bullets.I have had the best luck with h-1000,r-25 and imr 7828 in both my 7mmrum and 300rum rifles. You may get decent groups with h4831 but velocities will not be near their potential. You will probably get velocities that will not be much better than max loads from a 7mm rem magnum but you will not get 7mm rem mag barrel life due to the extra powder you will be burning.
