Just wondering if the advanced technology Ballistic silver tip bullets will work in my 270wsm. I have heard horror stories about these when they first came out. if you pushed them at speeds of over 3000 fps they would come aparton impact. I reload and would like to try these out. thanks Steve

I am not a fan of BT's myself because of the things you mentioned. However I've only shot 2 muley's with the .30 150gr flavor so I wouldn't say I have a lot of field experience. Many swear by them and yes they'll work though they wouldn't be my first choice. Brett

I have had Combined Tech. Ballistic Silver Tips come apart on impact in my 30-06/180gr with a muzzle velocity of less than 2700fps.. IMO they will not hold up to the velocities of the 270WSM unless you are shooting 300++ yards. They are no longer allowed in our hunting camp, to many failures.

Cant really comment on the Combined Technology through my .300 win mag " poor groups", but have never had a problem with the Nosler BTs. Im pushing 180gr at 3100fps and never had one come apart on impact yet " nine years and several deer later" from 30yds out to 450yds. Anything larger than deer size game I would go to a different bullit though, the BTs are not made for thicker skined animals, this is were alot of the problems occur, wrong tool for the job.

I have shot a lot of animals with BT's in a variety of cartridgesand have yet toexperience a bullet failure or "blow up". Shots have been everything fromin my faceto over 400 yards, behind the shoulder to double pins and never needed a second shot with only 1 non exit wound. Maybe I have been extremely lucky but I will continue to use the BT bullet without reservation when deer or lighter are on tap.

I had a bad experience with Nosler Ballistic tips several years ago. I loaded some 130's up for my 280 and went hunting. Long and short of it is that i took a doe at 50 yards broadside. The bullet exploded on impact. It was the last time I used BT's on anything other than varmints.

The combined tech ballistic silver tips is EXACTLY same bullet as ballistic tips but at much higher prices. Under extremely controlled and picked shots, the ballistic tips provide awesome instant kills with exact bullet placement.

As far as precision placementof shots, I never thought of myself as suchbut I guess I must be as per my previous post...no failures even on our large bodied canadian deer
