I have mostly RCBS ,Lee ,Hornady and Redding dies. They all load very good ammo but the Lee dies do it cheaper. I am not cheap but I do like to save money where I can. I no longer shoot rifle very much but still shoot pistol a lot.

bkd. get the factory crimp die. It may be a extra step but worth it.;)GL and have fun.
Yep, it does help to crimp that rough edge of the case neck down, and if you have crimp grooves on your bullets it works even better.
Let me get this right. You arerecommending to a new reloader to crimp a bullet with no cannalure?

bigcountry, iffin you knew as much about them Lee dies as you think you do then you would know that the factory crimp die will form a grove anywhere on a bullet and crimp it at the same time!
I use oneon my 45-70 with Remington 405 gr jacketed bullets so I can crimp them for the proper length for my 1895 Marlin, and they work as advirtised.
If them bullets will hold their position in the case under that kind of recoil and with 405 gr bullets, they sure aint gonna move in a 270!
James B , I think he is just pickin on you;)

Yes I also respect his advice, and I think he's a great guy, but when I dissagree you know I'll put my two cents worth in.
If we all thought alike they wouldn't make but one brand.

RE: dies and the lee handloader

If I can shoot a consistant 3 inch group at 100 yards with a given load I am happy.
I would be extremely unhappy if that was the best that a load,or a rifle would do.

I personally won't use LEE dies because I hate the decapper rod being help in place by a collet.I used one that slipped continually.

I've never had any problem with the decaping stem moving, were you using it on crimped military primers?
Oh and I agree totally on that accuracy issue, I think 3" groups suck, my 45-70 will often manage sub 1" at a hundred yards when scoped it will beat 3" with open sights.
