Actually it is unlikely that a barrel is scrapped if the head space is too small.The head space is easily increased by running the chamber reamer into the barrel a bit more.

As with the encore,a chamber reamer can be used to increase the headspace in a bolt rifle.It is much more common to do this than to remove metal from the bolt face and weaken the bolt.To decrease the headspace in a bolt action,one simply uses the lathe to cut the shoulder on the barrel back.The exception is the savage where a threaded nut is used to adjust the headspace.

Yes, it is a good read. But one must read it with the idea that this guy Bellm makes his living working on Contenders and Encores. Not all Encores are as screwed up as Bellm makes them out to be. My factory .30-06 Encorebarrel has a small chamber and a a short forcing cone. It also makes .75 inch three shot groups at 100 yards.

i like to set the bullet in my Remington Model 700 loads so that it is .010 to .015off the rifling: This is too long for the Encore. i end up with ammo boxes marked fordifferent rifles but that is ok.

Falcon you are absolutely correct. I have several barrel's. I have only had a problem with one of them. Unbelievably it was also a 30-06 factory barrel(24 inch SS). I had to size my cases about .003 longer with the Forster FL sizing die. Now they shoot great. But with regular FL sized brass I had two misfires. That Forster die works great. Tom.

I noticed that you said you set the sizing die down until it contacts the shell plate. That may be your problem. You should turn the die down a bit more until the press cams over. You may not be pushing the shoulder back enough to chamber in the Ruger. And you may also have a chamber in your Encore a bit larger than the Ruger but still within tolerance.
The best advice was given earlier - purchase more brass and use it only in the Ruger and use what you have in the Encore. I do the same thing for my 7-08 in my Savage and Browning. Not only for the chamber differences, but these rifles like different loads. I just mark the MTM box 7-08 SAV or 7-08 BWG to keep them separate in addition to the load label.
