Default 270

Anyone shooting the 140 Nosler Ballistic tips in their 270. What kind of performance on game are you getting? What powder works best for you. Thanks.

I used the 130 grain Ballistic Tips in my 270 Win. but was not happy with their lack of penetration (often not exiting). I switched tothe 150 Ballistic Tips last year and even though they are very accurate, Iwas not overly pleased. I shot a doe at 125 yards and when I dressed the deer, it appeared the bullet fragmented just after impact.

I switched again to 150 grain Partitions; thePartititons performed beautifully and were also veryaccurate out of my Savage 111. The Partitions are definitley better bullets for hunting in my opinion.

If you want to shoot a Ballistic Tip, use the bonded core Accubonds. The Accubond should hold together better than the Ballistic Tips. However, it's tough to beat the Partitions.

Use IMR-4350, H-4831, RL-22,or IMR-4831. Either of these powders should work well in the 270 Win.

For deer I used 130 NBTs and no complaints. Powders IMR4350 & H4831. A buddy of mine's rifle really likes RL19 under 130's.

For larger then deer 150 NP was my favorite behind H4831. RL 22 would be worth a boo with the larger for caliber bullets...though I have never personally used it myself in the 270 win.

Thanks guys. I have been shooting the Federal Fusiond with great success. The 130's. However the price has doubled on them in the last year or so. No big deal on a hunt but a little spendy to burn up at the range. I Like the Sierra Pro-Hunter bullets in the 7MM-08 and 280, never tried them in the 270 yet. I have IMR and H 4831 and IMR4350. I think I have RE-19 as well. I should try the 130 Partition, the partitions are hard to beat.

James if you don't get it shooting with the powders you have on the reloading room shelf then let her go. Good luck.

BTW I noticed the price of factory mois up here when buying 17hmr's. I have heard several rumors about the prices going up on components brass and bullets, but haven't need to buy any as I am well stocked[8D].

I need to get rid of a bunch of bullets. I am kinda burned out on reloading. For about twenty years I have been reloading for two dozen calibers. I am tired of trying to keep up with all of them. I want to cut back to about five calibers and put the other stuff in the safe for the kids someday. I would like to cut back to just the 270, 223, 45-70, 44 Mag and 45LC/45 Auto. Maybe 357 Mag/38 Special. I could cut back to about five powders insted of thirty.

I bought six boxes of shells for the 7mm-08 so with the few other guns I use for deer, I may not need to load any for that. I will keep my dies though because if ammo costs keep going up, reloading might be fun again.I have noticed that as I get older things that used to be fun are more like work now.

Does that Game king perform well at a pretty good range of velocities? I have had good performance from the Pro Hunters. I dont believe I have ever used the Game King? I bought some Federal Fusions when they first came out in 130 grain. These worked awful well and were quite accurate in my rifle.
