Default 500 S & W???

I was going to order a 45-70 barrel for my Encore pistol. I just ran on to a 500 S & W barrel for my Encore. I have no experience with the 500. The barrel is a 10 inch barrel, and it is ported. Any good molds or styles available? Any good loads? Any opinions on the 500 S & W? Thanks, Tom.

I have had better luck with the 460. Didn't have the thump, and great results with light bullets. I shot right with a good friend who owns them all, and the 500 drop like a rock past 100yards. I was shooting 8" low at 200yards zero'd at 100. He was going down to 12" or lower. I only have a 200gr factory and 240gr XTP load for it. Don't know how the 460 does with 300-400gr bullets. The 500 seems to handle the heavies well.

It is funny you mention 460. I just found a 10 inch 460 barrel in good shape for an Encore. Now I know where there is a nice 460, and a 500. I started out wanting to order a 45-70 barrel for my Encore, it is funny how things work out. Tom.

I have been looking at a 500 s&w revolver and I think that would be a awesome gun to shoot and I would think that a 100 yards out of a pistol should be more than enoughf

I am sure they would have lighter slugs that would be able to take longer distances

That 45/70 would be a great barrel to have also. That round can be loaded from lite plinker to a bulldozer.Give it a try.
