110gr 30-06
has anyone ever loaded 110gr bullets in 3006? i been wanting some for groundhog shooting. something lighter, faster, flatter, and goes SPLAT. i found a company online that will load me a variety of 110gr bullets in 3006. the most expensive was the hornaday V-max and was still only 15 or 16$ a box. that aint bad!
i know that standard 30 caliber rounds are 150-180. i never noticed my gun liking one load over another and ive shot ALOT of factory ammo. i was just wondering if it was worth buying this ammo to shoot groundhogs? should it still shoot accurately even though its lighter?? its asporterized belgium mauser 98k. not sure what twist..ijust know it may make a diffrence..thats why im asking...also..will the 40gr diffrence from 150 to 110grs make a diffrence in trajectory?? id like to think my 250+ yd kills are skill...but they are more of a hope and a prayer..i want to get a little more serious this summer and learn to make the longer shots. my farthest shooting is probably 300-350..but if i become more capable that can become an average shot..i know of some long fields i could get permission to hunt...
so what do you guys say?? also...should i got with the Vmax or a HP or a soft point or what?? i want the maximum splat factor..not for the blood and guts...but for safety. my fields are safe and everything..i still sometimes dont like sending a round into the rock hard dirt..a more fragile bullet will be more prone to break up and not keep sailing...im safe and know where i can shoot...just think a really fragile bullet would be a good idea..thanx guys

Tried some 110 grain factory loads many years ago and accuracy was not there. It may be there now. Loaded a couple of different brands of 110 grain bullets and could not get a load that was both accurate and powerful.Fired about 300 rounds trying to develop a good load.
Finally went with 125 and 130 grain bullets. Killed whistle pigs out to 375 yards with 52.1 grains of IMR 3031 and a Hornady 130 grain bullet. With that load the bulletzips along at 3200-3300 fps.It is a good long range coyote zapper.

I shoot 110grn HP's out of my 300Wthby, I know they arent supposed to go 3900fps + but they sure do some damage. Ive never had a prob with them. I shot a handful of deer with the load and they were nothing but bang flop shots. Shot 2 crows with them and it went from crow to feather explosion.

i used to shoot ground hogs at 300 yrds all the time using 54 grains of imr 4064 and a 110 grain jhp from sierra.from an browning abolt 30-06.you can go hotter but accuracy will start dropping.this is a super accurate load though.
