Default .243 receipes?

My wife has a .243 her father gave her when we were married. He also gave her a pile of 100 gr Win. PPs'.We are down to the last box of those, so I am going to start loading for it this winter. The gun prints 5/8" groups at 100yds with the Win. pps, so we really don't need to change over. However, I have aquired about 600, .243, 100gr, Sierra Spitzers for free, and would like to utilize them.

Anybody have a pet that shoots good? Otherwise I'll just hit the books.

I'd probably try IMR4831 first. I've had good luck with it in two different .243's using 100gr pills.

Try using the Hodgon H335 powder. It's a ball powder and I used to get it as army surplus...was loaded in .223 rounds as near as I could figure. It works great in my .243 with 100 gr Sierra BT bullets. I have taken Mule dear out to 350 yards with my .243 and it has killed many other deer and antelope as well. This powder works well in powder throwers and trickles like a dream.

AZ, is that a Hodgdon recommendation?

RebelHog,

I would say that is an absolute yes...it has worked very well for me. I have been loading it for 30 years now.

The Sierra 100 gr. has been a great bullet in a number of .243 and 6MM-284 rifles I have owned over the past 30 years. In the .243 Winchester, I would recommend IMR 4350 or H-414 as a first choice powder. Good luck. Roskoe.
