RE: retumbo powder
I use Retumbo in my Ultra's 300 & 338 . It has given top velocity in both . It is , as far as I can tell , very temperature insensitive. I can easily drive a 30 cal 180 gr. Partion at 3300 and a 250 338 cal Partion at 3000 . In fact I have to keep throttling back , the 250's were running 3060 in the 338 ultra no sign of presure but I'm sure it was over so I backed down to 3000. I plan on trying it in my 300 win and 7MM Rem mag. Good hunting KH

RE: retumbo powder
I have two pounds left that I used to use with my 300RUM's. For some strange reason, it puts out a huge flame. Hodgdon said it might be the coating used. I found RL25 little better with velocity.
I am trying to find someone in the MD area that would want to try it to buy it off me.

Thanks Bigcountry you probably just saved me some money. I have been using RL 25 just like you said, with good results. I was wanting to try some Retumbo, but if it does what you say(which I am sure it does), then I will not waste my time with it.
Where are you at in MD. I hunt in a small town called Orleans, at the foot of Sidling Hill. Or just east of Cumberland. Tom.

RE: retumbo powder
I hate Retumbo.....very inconsistant in two mag calibers.....I lit 1/2 pound and watched the show with a grin on my face......The worst powder I have ever worked with.....I called Hodgdon and they said it was my inexperience to blame.....I told the dude that I had been reloading since 1961 (true) he muttered something and I hung up.
I am not kidding....I had 7mag velocities +- 250'/sec. Aweful stuff. Never again. Imust havehad a bad batch....never again. Regards, Rick.

48th, whatmags were you loading it up with? I too have a .300 Ultra Mag, andretumbo works awesome in it. Withremington brass, fed 215 primer and101 grains of retumbobehind a 180 Nosler Accubond, I get 3400 f/s and 1"-1.5" groups depending upon the day and the shooter (me). I know thatI could get betteraccuracywith different loadsbut I'll wait until my guns gets a makeover for that.

RE: retumbo powder
I have to admit, I had a 190gr matchking load with 95gr of Retumbo, that shot with 30fps std dev. and at 300 yards subMOA groups.
Only reason I don't use it, is one I use RL25, which I consider comparable, and two, velocities wasnt' near as good as RL25 for some strange reason.
But I figure I got to use this 2lbs one day.
