RE: 243 winchester
I DON'T KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS SEEN THIS BUT MY REM. 700 IN 243 WILL NOT SHOOT ANY THING BUT 100 GR. BULLETS. AND NOTHING WITH A BALISTIC TIP HAS TO BE GOOD OLD LEAD SP. HORNADY AND SIERRA.

RE: 243 winchester
I shoot 100 grain Nosler Partitions in my 243 win and love then I have taken deer out to 400 yards with them with no problems.

RE: 243 winchester
Been playing with some 55gr BT and sierra blitzkings the last few weeks and gotten some very good groups at 100 but not so good at 300.\
Have taken several deer 300+ yds with the hornady 87 gr,and the sierra 85 gr BTHP and both have worked well. I haven't hunted with the 243 in several years but let one of my brothers use it year before last and I think he took 5 deer with it,and this past year let a friend use it and he took one at 270 yds with it.That was the fartherest he had ever shot at a deer. Have posted this pic before but I probably never shoot one like it again so here it is again. The second pic you can see it didn't do to bad on another day with the 100 gr core-loc. ![]() ![]() |
RE: 243 winchester
ORIGINAL: stickin8s what is a good bullet weight for the .243? my rifle is the remington 700 vls. I have treid 58 gr. vmax's, they group great, and leave a nasty entrance wound. The problem is that up to 250yds. they are ok, but at 300 and 350 they drop off rapidly, { 350 digs dirt} I was told that a heavier bullet would stabilize better, and that the .243 should be able to reach 400yds easy. I would like something heavy enough for deer, and to target shoot at 200 to 400 yds. any help would be greatful. |
RE: 243 winchester
ORIGINAL: Rammer I loaded up some Sierra Game Kings 100grs for a buddy last year, and neither of us were impressed with them. Deer shot thru the boiler room would run 50-100 yards. The bullets never made a Whap sound on impact, and the deer didn't even show any signs of being hit. After shooting 2 deer with that load we retired those bullets from deer hunting. |
RE: 243 winchester
Yeah, I'm not sure what it was. I wish I would have had better luck with them, due to how cheap they are, and how great they shot out of both of my 243s.
