you should try hollow points from what ive been told by a benchrest shooter friend of mine is that the little bit of extra wind resistance created by the hollow point helps the bullet stay stable at longer ranges.

well it looks like finding a bullet for deer isn't a problem, but what about the range with the heavier bullets, will they make 350 to 400 yds.?

well thats the idea behind wanting to know the capability of the bullet, as far as me, I can't do it with out trying, and practicing. nobody becomes a better shot without practice.

My point exactly, personally I know my limitations, it's right around 300. For elk or moose I'd feel more comfortable taking a longer shot. Now that having been said I have shot groundhogs out to 425 verified with a rangefinder.

The Sierra 85gr HPBT is a good bullet for both coyotes and deer...I have killed deer out to 300 yards with it...You should be able to push it to 3200-3300 without too much trouble....It will mess up the pelts on coyotes...

The only bullet I've loaded for mine in the last 25 years is teh Sierra 85 HPBT Gameking. Use it for eeverything I carry the .243 for. I am thinking of trying the Barnes TSX next season if I can work up a load tho.

The 85 grain Sierra HPBT would be good for varmits and deer both. I don't know about pelt damage but they should carry well at long range and seem pretty effective for deer with precision shot placement.

I have used 75gr Hornady HPs loaded around the 3200fps mark on coyotes out to some extreme distances with great luck. I decided to switch up my load this season and started shooting 60gr Sierra HPs at max load (advertised 3600fps). They do a great job on 'yotes and I have yet to get an exit on them.

For deer out of the 243 I use 95gr Combined Technology BTs with great success. I've shot probably 15-20 deer with that load and they have all been a bang flop.

I loaded up some Sierra Game Kings 100grs for a buddy last year, and neither of us were impressed with them. Deer shot thru the boiler room would run 50-100 yards. The bullets never made a Whap sound on impact, and the deer didn't even show any signs of being hit. After shooting 2 deer with that load we retired those bullets from deer hunting.
