Best 45-70 Load
Wats the best 45-70 Load to put in the Marlin 1895 Guide Gun

RE: Best 45-70 Load
Depends what for? For deer, I like sierra 300gr ok, but prefer 300gr nosler partition. I have been shooting 46gr of IMR4198 kicking at 2000fps. But my accuracy is like 2.5MOA. So I got some IMR3031 and going to give it a try.

RE: Best 45-70 Load
I like hornaday 350grsp 54grain varget they are around 1900 fps. I can get alittle more from my buffalo classic but it has a 32 in barrel. That is notbook top end.

ORIGINAL: okboarhunter Wats the best 45-70 Load to put in the Marlin 1895 Guide Gun If you give us a more narrow hint as to your intended uses, maybe it would be possible to be of more help here. If you're talking about shooting boar or hogs, I'd stick to a 400-grain jacketed flatnose bullet and use 53 grains of IMR 3031 with it. IMO, the lighter bullets are intended for deer, except for perhaps the Speer 350-grainer and the Nosler Partition design. |
RE: Best 45-70 Load
Don't forget the 250 and 300 Barnes TSX.
