Default Recoil .223 VS .243

I thought Id ask the reloaders a question. Here is my dilema. I am looking for a fun gun... one to target shoot some, shoot coyotes in Indiana... etc... I live in Florida and thought...maybe I should get a .243 - I could go on a deer hunt on occasion. So being that I will reload I can play with various loads. So question.... can the 243 be loaded where it wont beat you up in a day of shooting ? I have not shot a 243 or a 223 so I need advice. Im looking for a fun gun like I said and more worried about accuracy at longer rangers (200-300) than ability to deer hunt .... so any insight ????

I shoot both calibers, the .243 will have more &quot;snap&quot; to it even if it's loaded down. Accuracy is equal with the right loads, the .243 being better at long ranges! If I were you I would go with the .223 and have fun...<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I will add to Pajaks reply,The 223 is alot less costly to shoot. Case are low in price and the bullets are about half the cost of the 243's.

Between the three guns DG mentioned I find I use my 223 rem more than I do the other two rounds . Most of the time they are more gun than I need just for varmit shooting . I would never use the 223 rem for deer but I'm sure it could do the job .I just like a bit more inurance when I'm deer hunting. Good luck whatever you choose they are all good rounds .

Recoil from a 243 Win? What recoil? Seriously the felt recoil from a 243Win is almost nonexisitant. I can shoot mine all day without even noticing. The 243 Win is a better cartridge hands down than the 223 Rem for almost anything you want to do with it.

If you find the 243 has a lot of recoil you are a very recoil sensitive person.I have owned two of them and found recoil to be barely noticeable.

i had the same delema years back, wanted a 223 for predators but realised this cartridge wasn't good for deer.went with the 243 and love it.its fun to shoot(all day if need be)and there realy is no recoil to speak of.i can watch the bullet hit its intended target thru the scope every time,if the 243 had major recoil this wouldn't be possible.

I have both the 243 and 223 they both have little or no recoil. both are great small game rounds. I have taken many deer with both out to 300yd but with the .223 your shot placement must be perfect. So if your going to use rifle for deer I would recomened the .243.

.223 has no recoil, and the .243 has next to no recoil
