200 Gr. TSX on a Bear
Shot a bear this weekend with my 30-378. Bloody picture is the exit wound. Full body shot is the entrance. He was at 310 yds and right through both shoulders. He was rolling before I got the scope back on him.

Im a believer in the TSX but a .30-378 with a 200 grain TSX at 310 yards is like a 300 win mag with a 200 grain TSX at the muzzle. its no wonder that bullet blew completely through at 310 yards.

Hunted in Eastern WA. It is my first bear so judging him on foot was a little tough. I am guessing 175lbs or a little better. I handled him pretty well when I dressed him out. There was a little ground shrinkage. I should have taken a picture of him with the hide off. There was very little meat damage.
Should there be a bigger exit wound?
HDW,

didnt mean for it to sound like a bad thing I think its flat out awesome that a 30-378 will blow through a bear at 310 yards LOL What I meant was most guys out there hunting bear are using 338 and 300 win mags and wont get a pass through at that range but the velcolity a 30-378 pushes its not a problem to make a pass through with one at that range. What Im saying is a TSX makes a 300 win mag a better round but the 30-378 makes the TSX a better bullet I dont know if im making much sense LOL but I deffinately did not mean for it to sound like I thought it was bad thing just basically a 300 win mag cant hold a match to a 30-378 its like comparing a apples and oranges.

The 300ultramag is a noticeable step up in recoil from the 300winmag.The 30-378 is a noticeable step up in recoil from the 300ultramag.Therefore the 30-378 is a very significant step up in recoil from the 300winmag.

HDW,
I gotcha. Now I know what you're saying. Exactly right.
DVD,
Here's the thing. Without getting too technical in here. Weatherby did a great job with the accubrake. I have banded plugs for my ears when I shoot in the field to prevent hearing damage. I own a Tikka 300 Win Mag Lightweight with a brake on it as well. The 30-378 kicks much less and has little or no muzzle jump compared to the 300 win mag with a aftermarket brake. Rifle weight has something to do with that as well. It is very gentle though to answer your question. A little less than a .243 for recoil, with a brake. Just make sure you have hearing protection.
