Default RE: Shotgun load Question

It goes back to the days of blackpowder. Today's shotshells are loaded with smokeless powder. The dram equivilent is nothing more than a number expressed in drams, which is a blackpowder weight. The shells are loaded to the same speed. An example would be a 12ga load....1 1/8oz-#7 1/2 shot -2 3/4 Dram Eq.This would mean that the load would roughly have the same velocity as the old black powder load appx 1145fps
