Default I quit hammering to pull bullets

I know we all have things happen when reloading that might have been worse than they turned out. And when we tell about them maybe it will help somone to make better choices and do things safer. I have used a kenetic bullet puller for several years with out any problems. I have heard of primers going off when using them but I never had any go off. But today I dicided to pull some bullets and load a different bullet instead of using some of my new cases as these were only loaded twice. I pulled 5 and then on the 6th the plastic puller broke into right below the area where the case is seated. I thought the primer had blew but it didn't. Pieces of the puller, powder and the bullet went flying around the reloading room. I was wearing my prescription glasses so nothing got into my eyes.
So I got on line and ordered a Foster bullet puller with the collets for the calibers I use. No more hammering for me! While this may seem trivial to some the bullet could have hit me in the eye or even a piece of plastic. If you plan to pull bullets get a good puller you can put in your press.

It's all personal choice, but I would just use a good pair of safety goggles. I've been using kenetic bullet pullers for ovre 30 years and found them to be very reliable.

I used one of the hammer jobs for years too and had it come apart in a thousand pieces after several yeras. So you keep on hammering and I will pull my bullets with out scaring them either. Been there already done that. Just what ever you want to do. The only reason I mentioned it was so it might keep someone from getting hurt. But it seems everytime you mention something like this someone is waiting to jump on you and make you look like an idiot just because you are going to do it different than they are.

Blob just the pros and con deal. I appreciate the post I don't tend to wear safety glasses much and don't think I ever have pulling bullets, I will now, don't know that I'll change how I do it but I will keep your experiences in mind when I do, thx

blob, I don't think anyone jumped on you, or felt you were an idiot. I'm sure we all forget from time to time to wear our safety glasses, your post certainly reminded me to wear mine. Never having a puller come apart one tends to not think about it. If you want to do something different than someone else than you should, that's why there are several bullet pulling tools. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll be checking my puller more often.
