What are y'all loading as far as bullets go for .338 Win. Mag, and why? I've never loaded for mine, and have killed several black bear with factory 200 gr., but feel they are on the light side. Need a good all-around bullet for both black bear and elk. Thanks.

I made this load for my cousin's Browning A-bolt .338 Win. Mag.; he has killed 5 oryx with this load. The furthest was 200 yds. All hit in the shoulder and passed through. They all droped on the spot. He obtained under an inch with this load.
Barnes 225 gr. XFB
RL-22, MIN: 73.0 grs. 2782 f/s, MAX: 78.0 grs. 2919 f/s. (The MAX load wasslightly hot for his A-Bolt, so I reducedthe load by a grain and it was fine.) (DON'T FORGET TO START AT MIN).
You could also try the Barnes 225 gr. XLC FB, or 225 gr. TSX FB.
Good luck.

heres my very best load for the 338 win. 225gr Nosler Accubond
Ruger MKII Stainless
72 gr RL 19
Win Lrg Mag primers
3.39"col
this load consistantly shoots .60-.75.
My friend harvested a 225lb whitetail in Canada with this load, he shot the deer while it was facing him. The bullet traveled through the chest cavity destroying the lungs and heart, went through the mid section making a right turn and lodging in the hind quarter just under the skin. It retained 67%. We were both pleased with the results.

I'm currently loaded with Hornady's 225 interlocks but in the future will use Northfork 225s or Swift A-Frames in the same weight.
Nothing wrong with the Hornady's....just want a premium bullet for the big gun.
