243 LOADS ???
CAN ANYONE GIVE SOME LOADS FOR MY 243 USING IMR 4350 ? I WILL BE SHOOTING A 75 GR. HORNADY V-MAX FROM MY REMINGTON 700 VLS. I HAVE A LEE RELOADING BOOK AND THE NEWEST HORNADY BOOK BUT THEY DON'T LIST THIS POWDER FOR THEIR LOADS. I AM PLANNING ON SHOOTING FOX ,COYOTES , AND CHUCKS. I WANT TO SET THE RIFLE UP FOR LONG RANGE SHOOTING, SO IF ANY BODY HAS A GOOD LOAD TO RECOMMEND THATS WOULD BE GREAT.
THANKS.
THANKS.

RE: 243 LOADS ???
I,ve got the NRA caliber specific loadbook for 243 Winchester and IMR powder shows astarting load of 44gr up to a max load of 46gr of IMR4350 powder at 42,900-48,600 cup pressures. That is for 75 gr bullet. It lists the velocity at 3127-3380 fps, don't know the length of the test barrel though. They do mention that a faster burning powder such as IMR 4064 did perform better with the lighter weight bullets. Good luck.

RE: 243 LOADS ???
thanks for the info. I have been looking all over the internet, trying to find some loads for the 243 with the imr 4350, but i'm not having much luck. I am going to try that load to start, and if i can't find what i like , then i may change to a different powder and go with the 58 gr. vmax. If any body has a good suggestion for a long range varmint load with the vmax bullets, i would like to hear them.

RE: 243 LOADS ???
I just got my loadbooks back home with me.
The Hornaday 58gr Vmax does not list IMR 4350 for any loads nor does the 75gr Vmax list IMR 4350.
The 75gr Vmax does list H 4350 with a minimum load of 40.3gr @ 2900fps and a max load at 46.7grs (3400fps).
I have loaded IMRR 4831, H4895, Viht N-160 and Win 760 with the 75gr Vmax and HPs with great luck.
My most recent load is the 75gr HP, 44 grains of Win 760, and CCI 200 primers. This load is devastating on coyotes and jackrabbits (Thats all I've shot with it so far), and a cottontail this evening at a lasered 255 yards.
I worked up a load for my buddies Savage 243 last year that consisted of 44grains of Viht N-160, Fed primers, winchester brass, and the 75gr VMax. This load shot very well, and took out alot of coyotes.
I have had the HPs shoot better that the VMaxs out of both of my 243s, I haveat Tikka T-3 and a Remington 700. Also, if you are saving coyote pelts I had almost every VMax blow thru, while the HPs have not been.
If you would like any more load data feel free to holler!

RE: 243 LOADS ???
You might try the 70 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. I have had great luck with that bullet for coyotes and other large varmints. 47.0 of IMR 4350 has always been a full throttleaccuracy load for my rifles - which are mostly Remington 700's. Your rifle, of course, might be too tight for this load and decide to blow up. If that happens, I am sorry - but that's about it. Start at a much lower charge and work up. And check my recommended loads against several loading manuals - just in case I got confused with the .240 Weatherby. [8D]

RE: 243 LOADS ???
Yeah, Roskoe has a good bullet mentioned. I have heard from many sources that the nosler is a great choice. As far as the 47 grains, I cant really say. I use 40 grains of 4350 for a 100 grian bullet and I get 2900 fps out of it. Plenty good performance by my estimation. But just keep in mind that at higher velocities your need for a bullet that can retain weight becomes greater which leaves you with the choices of bonded bullets or the partitions, of which there are ample choices. RE: 243 LOADS ???
Thanks for the loads guys, but for now I want to keep the bullet weight down to 75 grs. or lower. Has any one used any of the vmax moly coated before? I read that the moly coating improves accuracy and velocity due to the bullet being lubed.
