I spent a nice day at the range on Tuesday and got a few things accomplished. I spent most of the day shooting my muzzleloaders while waiting for my 7mm too cool between groups. It was a nice day, not too cool, not too hot, only a little wind toward the end of the day.

I had bought a new canister of IMR 7828 for my 7mm Rem Mag and loaded up 5 loads around my previous batch of powders accurate load to check and see if anything was different about the new batch of powder. I am using 140gr Nosler Balistic Tips. With the previous batch (bought about 2 or 3years ago) I was getting solid .5" groups with the best load and it spread slightly either side of this load. I'm happy to say that the new batch of powder did almost exactly the same as the old powder with one small exception, the oldpowder shot .5", the new powder shot .375". .5 grain either side ofthis shot about .75". All 5 loads grouped within about 1.5" of each other and the worst group was still under 2". I also had 1 round left over from the old powder, it printed within a half inch of the new powders group.

I didn't have a chony on hand to verify the velocities but the groups were so close to the ones from when I worked up the load the first time that I have to assume they are similar to the original results. IMR 7828 sure seems to be a consistent powder and has given me no reason to doubt it's reliabilityor accuracy.

I think I'm ready to hunt.

IMR 7828 has always worked well for me. I just loaded up some .300 Wby loads using the new IMR 7828 SSC. Hopefully it will work as well as the old stuff.

I've been happy with it. I haven't tried the SSC version yet, let us know how it compares.

I had worked up a 7mm Mag. load that shot 1.0" groups at 200 yards with the 175-grain Nosler Partition bullet at 3070 FPS from a 26" barrel using Norma N205. After N205 disappeared, I found that the same amount of the then-newNorma MRP produced the same results. Then I tried RE 22 when MRP Norma powders went off the market (AGAIN!!). RE 22 would NOT produce the same results I had been getting with the Norma powders, despite the "fact" that RE 22 is supposed to be the same as MRP. (Not quite!!)

However, I decided to try IMR 7828. Lo and Behold! It works as well as the old Norma powders for the 175-grain Nosler! It just takes a different amount of it, that's all. Accuracy and velocity are back where they were way back in the Norma powders days.....

Holy cow eld, Idon't know if I cando that with my STW.

I get right at 3000fps with the Rem 175 CoreLoct using 7828. I get sub 1" groups at 100 yards with that load. I worked that one up for elk. Working on a 160 Accubond load now but haven't finalized it, will probably have to wait till after my hunt since I only have 3 weeks till I leave.

I'm sure you can if your 7 STW barrel is long enough! My Barnes manual shows a couple of 7 STW loads with 175-grain bullets that break 3100 FPS in a 26" barrel. But big cases like that lose a lot in shorter tubes!

Amen to that. I have built a couple of 7 STW's with 27.5" barrels. It's amazing how much speed they can produce. I won't even mention the numbers here, to avoid a "BS" flag. [8D]

Well, I am pushing a 160gr accubond around 3000fps with 78gr of H1000. Still need to work on my 7828 loads.

RL22 works in My Tikka. Tried them all including Retumbo (yuck) and the RL22 outshines them all. I'm pushing a 140 gr Nosler at 3160 and shooting 3 inch groups at 400 no problem. Poor Deer. Regards, Rick.
