Under normal circumstances I would test both powders, but the father will only spring for one pound. Good luck.
Actually if you are expected to develop an accurate load using only one powder for testing,it is you that needs good luck.

If I cannot get Winchester 760 to group, I will spring for a different powder. I will not let a 11 year old kid on his first mule deer hunt to go out with unsatisfactory rounds. Good luck.

I've got a Rem 700 Mtn LSS w 22" barrel and using H414 I'm getting 3/4" groups @ 100Yds with the Hornady 139 gr. SPs. I've also tested some 140 Sierra Game Kings on top of Varget and getting 1/2" groups with that combo. Varget has also produced 1/2"-3/4" groups with 140Grn Accubonds.

Who knows if his gun will like it, but Varget would probably be a good one to try in addition to the powders you already have.

I have to agree with firstshot on this one. If I had to try to work up some accurate loads and could only use one powder to try, I would have to opt for Varget. While there are other powders that work well with the 7mm-08, like IMR-4064 and Reloder 15, and many others report decent results with powders as fast as H-4895 and as slow as H-4831, I would still try Varget first, then IMR-4064 and if you couldn't get one of them to group decently, I would start looking at the scope mounts, scope or the rifle itself. If you already have the H-414 and W-760 on hand, it wouldn't hurt to load a few and see. If it groups decently, it may be all you need. Good Luck.

Ive never used either of those powders but IMR4320 is one you should check into for the 7mm08.
