RE: 270 Weatherby
Have any of you experimented with the IMR 4831? Is it similar to the H4831? The reason I ask is that most of your replies to this post suggest the H4831. I had some extra IMR4831 and shot a nice 1/2" group at 100 yds with the 140gr. nosler accubonds.
I was about 1 1/2 inches high at 100, dead on at 200 and about 4 inches low at 300.....pretty flat load. I have another question. I experimented with three different loads with the IMR4831. (66.5 grains, 67.5 grains and 68.5 grains) I let the barrel cool before each 3-shot group and found that the 66.5 shot about an 1 1/4 group.....the 67.5 shot about 1/2" group.....the real shocker is that the "hot" load of 67.5 grains really separated at the clip of a 2 1/2" group. Do any of you have a reason for this? |

IMR 4831 is also a good powder for this cartridge. Go to Hodgdon's website to see thr relative differences in burn rates. The H-4831 and IMR 4831 are roughly in the same class of burning rate but don't think they are the same.....similar maybe but not the same.
