Default Most Common Hunting Accidents

The National Safety Council has reported that while comparing hunting to bicycling, only 7 injuries per 100,000 participants occurred during hunting activities, while 937 injuries per 100,000 participants were reported during bicycling activities. While hunting is a safe activity accidents do still occur and can be fatal.

The team at Outdoor Underwriters has been in the business of insuring hunt clubs for over 20 years. During these two decades over 50 percent of total claim settlements have been for accidental shootings. Listed below are the most common hunting accidents as well as tips to help keep you out of harms way.

The most common accidents hunters encounter are:

1. Accidental Shootings
2. Tree Stand Incidents
3. ATV Accidents
4. Fires

Many of these accidents can be avoided by following the rules & safety procedures of your hunt club.

Tips to help avoid accidents:

- Always be sure to utilize your clubs check-in station.

- During dog and man drives be sure there is plenty of distance
between you and the other shooters, and always maintain your
stand site until the drive is finished.

- Avoid using ATV's in densely wooded areas. Always ride with
caution and stick to paths and roadways.

- Before starting a campfire check to see if your club has a safe fire spot, and review any
requirements for the burning of litter.

- Familiarize yourself with the clubs terrain. Check maps for gates
and gate poles as well as any other hazards, logging or
construction activity and public roads within the property.
