Sweeping gun law changes?
 

I've heard today that the Fiberals are changing the gun registry to help soften up the west before the election. Does anyone have information?

Not sweeping changes, they are simply getting rid of the fee to register and/or transfer a gun, and putting a cap on annual spending for the program.
Not registering is still a crime.
To get rid of this useless cash cow we have to get rid of the liberals.

Will this new fee structure include the Non-Residents who have to fork out $50 CDN to declare their firearms? Would appreciate any info if you guys have it.

There was no mention of that in the the Toronto Star's article. I highly doubt that will change, my understanding is that the declaration (and fee) is part of border security (post 9/11 and all) and is not part of the registry.

Just as it was from day one, a joke and nothing more.It started out as a no fee registration and nobody cared then, why should anybody give a rats rear end now? As long as those lib jacka$$es are in power nothing will change for the better.Living in Alberta, I'm lucky to have a provincial govt. smart enough to override the "powers that be" in ottawa.

The National Firearms Association will be fighting hard during the election campaign. They will be fighting for our rights as gun owners to overthrow the corrupt and scandalous Liberals. They need the support of all gun owners in Canada and this means joining the NFA if you're not already a member and contributing a little extra if you are. It's one thing to bitch and complain but it's quite another to do something about it. I mailed my cheque for $100.00 today to put towards the fight. It's a $100.00 I could use for many other things but nothing that's more important to me right now than defeating these a$$holes. It doesn't have to be $100.00. If every gun owner in Canada sent them even $1.00, they could make a pretty good fight with $7 or $8 million. Check out their web site at http://www.nfa.ca . Sorry if I sound a bit angry. :) gg.

If any of you would like to get on my e-mail ing list for the duration of the campaign for updates, press releases, developments as they particularly apply to the registry and the firearms community send me your e-mail address. There is nothing organized about this and I don't represent any club or organization in doing this. It's something I've been doing for some time and it's strictly my own personal effort. I can guarantee you some interesting reading. gg.

All Canadians who feel that they have been duped & penalized over the fact that they were charged fees in view of Anne mcLellan's announcement on cancelling registration fees should send in a copy of this letter to the Deputy Prime Minister, their own MP and their friends. gg.

Dear Ms. McLellan,

On May 19th. you announced that the $25.00 fee to transfer or register a
firearm is discontinued.

This means that effectively, you are rewarding persons who now may
comply with the legislation, while persons who obeyed the law are
penalized for having done so.

There is an obvious inequity in this move.

Under our Charter of Rights and Freedoms, 15. (1) Every individual is
equal before and under the law and has the right to the equal
protection and equal benefit of the law without discrimination and,
in particular, without discrimination based on race, national or
ethnic origin, colour, religion, sex, age or mental or physical
disability.

Therefore, in order to ensure my Charter Rights, to be treated
equally under the law, I am asking that the Government of Canada
refund all fees for registration and transfer of firearms that I have
paid.

I await your earliest response to this matter.

Goodguy; does that mean that "first nations" don't have special status under the law? We talk about equality under the law and then turn around and give groups special rights. The unfortunate part of the former dsicussions is that the party that gets support from the gun lobby will lose support with the general urban voter.
