This will be my first year going, and I will be at the Mirage the second week of Dec. Never been on a Caribou hunt, but from reading the posts, it sounds like quite an adventure. I'd definatly be interested in contacting got a hunch to get a heads up on the herd.....

There is a link on the Mirage web sitethat follows the migration of the heard. It is updated weekly, usually on Tuesday. It gives a general idea of the movement of the animals. In the five years that I've been going up there it has been a little different each time. Last yearwas the most difficult. http://www.fapaq.gouv.qc.ca/en/faune/caribou/index.htm

RE: Quebec Winter Caribou Hunting
I've always wanted to go 'bou hunting up north. I live in Montreal, so it's
not that far and I am a resident, but the rest of my hunting crew is over 50 accept my brother. No one else ever wants to go back, last time they went up, they had a terrible accident. Get this, my buddy's grandfather's best friend stepped out the helicopter and walked around the front and fell. The propeler blades took two inches off the top of his head. They'll never go north in a vehicle that fly's again. I understand their reasons, so it'll be my brother and I. Now all we need is a little company... From what I've read, you can't really go wrong if your a resident. We can take up to six 'bous a year from different zones! |
RE: Quebec Winter Caribou Hunting
Kind of a different question. I plan on flying back to Pittsburgh & then drive up with my buddies from there. I planned on using one of their rifles. I really dislike flying with a rifle---just too much hassle IMO. Do you think there will a problem crossing over into Canada. I'm going on a caribou hunt without a gun------I know that my buddy can take 3 rifles on his permit. Do you know there will be a hassle a the border with them thinking I'm trying to stiff them on the $50 fee?
