I'm heading out on the 4th for Mirage. Do they have a gun range of any type to make sure the ride up hasn't put the scopes out of whack?

Thanks,

There are many placesnear camp where you can setup tocheck your rifle. From the looks of the last couple of migration maps you'll have your work cut out for you. For those of us who did not do well it's a new year and time for us to stop licking our wounds and start looking ahead to the next hunt and those who are still going to go befor Feb.15 I say good luck and I hope some animals turn to the northeast for you. It's still hunting and a great experience. I guess that's why I'll be back up there Nov. 30, 2007.

Thanks GAH;

From what I've heard tagging is attainable. Snowmobiles are a necessity. Long shots are required. Either way, it will be a good time.

Will let you know how it turns out.

Cheers,

To all you Caribou hunters out there - Happy New Year and lets look forward to a more successful 2007 for all hunts.

I have talked to the CAN GEO guys and infered Global warming and they told me I was nuts. There take on it was the signs that the Caribou pay attention to to let them know how the winter is going to be - dry fall, early vegitation changes and even insect hibernation which all seemed to point to a harsh winter during the fall. They think is this what began to push the animals south early as we all say from the maps.

Another bit is info and Indian told me was that 150K animals fell through the ice and drowned some where uptop - the CAN GEO guy did confirm that something of this sort had happened but it was not real public. He thought this was a reason they held at LG3 for a while in November.

I look forward to another season and map watching with all you guys and also a 2007 hunt loaded with big bulls and a good hunt for everyone.

Bon Jour mates.

Looks like they may be moving in the right direction for those planning to go up yet! Has anyone been up lately? Any news from the outfitters up there?

Mirgae tells me that there are animals west and south of the lodge @ K358. They tell me the animals are more frequent now then when my group was there on 04 DEC - and since there were basically none this is not saying a whole lot!

Check this map out - it shows the propagation of the Leaf Herd south over the past 30 years - this really shows that 22B needs to be expanded quite a bit given the changes. The herd is large and growing and this also indicates the need for a more affective concervation plan.

Rearranging of the non-resident zone has been discussed for several years. And is not likely to ever happen for 3 reasons.

1. Quebec residents do not want to be surrounded by a non-resident zone.

2. The half a dozen outfitters in 22B have spent millions of dollars upgrading and improving their facilities (well all but one and we know who that is) LOL.

3. Quebec law forbids camping by non-residents and therearen't any outfitters and no roads south of the Trans-taiga, and nobody to maintain them if there was. The existing outfitters were made promises by the province when they invested and built. If the zone was changed or added to, there would be court battles for years.
