2006 Canadian Whitetails - Get' em!
#361
I'll be in Stony Plain by noon on Sunday, I'm pumped.
Hope I can deal with the frigid temps[:@] for 12hrs a day. I like the snow aspect of things
because there wasn't any when I was up there last year. Seeing them better should be a big plus and seeing where they have been traveling.
I think next week should be about prime time, or at least I'm hoping it will be!
I'll let you guys know how things went when I get back.

JD and Early in, good luck (probably to late but better late then never)
.
dieter, the weather is real cold right now -32 with the wind this morning and same tomorrow, however that is suppose to break and be norm or slightly below. Good dump of snow from saskatoon north. Was hunting mulies today and the whitetails were really moving. Lots of yearling groups and bucks, also so quite a few scrapes so the rut is approaching. You should be sitting pretty good on your trip, best of luck.
So strike mulies off my list, tag filled! After tromping all over hells acre today and not seeing a decent buck I made a snap decision and it turn out to be not the best one I have made. Making my way back to the truckI spotted a group of does with 2 bucks in distance tow, the bucks appeared worth a try so I made beeline for where I expecting them to be. I was a little slow and cut off the does in some crub they busted straight north and the bucks peeled straight west. On a full out run away he looked alright so I said screw it, they stopped the leica told my the bigger one was 407 yards. 1/4away shot dropped him in his trackthe walk to him was ok the walk back to the truck not so. By the time I dumped the rifle, grabbed the sleigh/camera and field dressed just about dark then the task of dragging him all the way back out[:@]. UM well not what I had in my dreams but I am now onto whitetails and really looking forward to it...DID I MENTION I HATE MULE DEER!! LOL
I am off tomorrow for the fringe and maybe even head into the forest, we'll see how I am feeling in the am may just head up for midday to try some rattling vs getting up at 5.
Good Luck to all.
Anybody know where this bambi's mom is I'd like to let her knowjr. is running a little late....

Bambi? [8D]
I missed one smaller than him tonight! Again, stalked upto a deer, shot up him thinking he was around 30 yards, was 45, so I clearly undershot him. When I went to look for the arrow, I did smell him in the air though - means theyre startin to rut.
I hit a couple other spots i know the does bed, but no bucks with them. REALLY weird imho. Furthermore, this buck was trailing some does, yet there is no way hes the dominant one around. Anyone have any theories?
Great deer skeeter, I hope to get one his size this year with tha bow!

So I lied...1 or 2more posts
I had to come to work today to finish off some stuff.
Skeeter, congrats man! He's a fine looking deer, but I can feel your pain about the drag back by yourself. Not easy with those big bodied deer. At least you can concentrate on the "harder" deer now
. Shoot a big one man!

Congrats Skeeter, good looking mulie you got there! How far was the drag out?
Good luck chasing your whitetails. They're running around alll over the place up here, I'm just about at the point where I'm going to lock myself in the house until the 25th just to save myself the torture.
Good luck guys. I can't wait to see pictures of everybodys bucks.

It's been kinda quite around here so I thought I throw up a post of a couple of nice Muley's. These are 2 of the deer that my buddy and his crew got last week.

Thanks, though still a bit x'd with myself but thats hunting.
JPF I haven't taped him, 170 area is about right. Looks like the south boys have gotten a few nice ones...thanks for sharing.
How about your bro?
Saskabush, the drag was not fun mile of up and down, more than 1 time I thought about splitin' him but figured just a few 100 more yards. I sure wish I would have loaded the bike that morning[&:]!!
I had a tough test withnot pulling the trigger this weekend in the fringe. Friday a passed up a wide, good height 4 but lacked good mass, after the previous day I was making sure!! Saturday morning I snuck into a funnel area that is about100 yards off a large alfalfa field, witha good1/2 hour till legal all I could do is watcha boonie 5x5 at less than 30 yards move off into the cover. Good deer I saw were outside of legal times in the headlights of the truck and this one. The rut is not on yet but the little guys are giving it a go chasing anything that doesn't have horns but to no avail. Saw lots of deer and 7 moose as well. Could have filled my anterless tag many times over but you know how the mind thinks "if I do what will I miss?". I did manage to get some shooting in on yotes as they were roaming all over the place, 6 didn't make but 3 others managed to escape with just some ruffled fur. Lots of BS going on up that way, talked to one of the landowners and he mentioned several deer shot and left since season opened monday...BOO[:@]. Never even saw a CO patrolling but I am sure they are busy all over the place.
Hope to head back next weekend for saturday and may stay on for a day or 2 depending on how they are moving. I also plan to devote some time to the ML zone and maybe even head elsewhere for a day trip with the rifle. Well see how the season rolls along and when I can get out, but with 4 weeks still remaining I ain't pannicked yet!
oh, was invited today to help on depravation effort.Mostly mule deer but the tags are for whitetail or mulies. There aresomeeither sex tags and the majority are for anterless. Haven't decieded yet, it depends when, who, etc.
That is it from my corner. GOOD LUCK
