RE: Ontario whitetail reports!
I saw the biggest buck of my life on Friday. How many points did he have; lots. He was 200 yds away, which didn't help in shotgun season. The wind was blowing so bad all day that there wasn't much else moving, except for being attacked by 2 squirrels.

RE: Ontario whitetail reports!
I took a 115lb (dressed) doe yesterday, the 1st deer I saw after 8 days in the bush. The new .308 proved itself worthy and for the 1st time there were no old timers around so I went through the whole process myself: shooting, recovering, dressing, and hanging, and pulling out the tenderloins.
I think I'm happier about the guns performance and my proving that I'm able to deal with the kill alone than the fact that I put meat in the freezer. This was only the 3rd dear for our three camps that cooperate, I think it was slow because the land is littered w/oak trees but the mast crop failed this year so they must have moved onto greener pastures. Gotta go, have to clean up the Tikka and put it away, finally it can sit in the gun cabinet without having an inferiority complex about being the only gun in there that hasn't harvested anything <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> "guns aren't for killing people, guns are for killing dangerous and delicious animals" - Homer Simpson |

RE: Ontario whitetail reports!
I only had the chance to go out on Friday last week, we were near Alliston, Ontario. Saw a really nice 6 Point but it was too far for the slug gun, the guy I went with all week saw allot of deer but they were all too far away.
Its an evolution, we're already planning improvements for next year. 340 Final count for 2002, no moose and no deer. Oh well there's always next year. |

RE: Ontario whitetail reports!
Well, I shot the biggest buck of my life on Saturday the 16th. (last day of the rifle hunt) Nailed him at about 85 yards through the bush with the 7mm. Dropped him in his tracks. We weighed him on a set of grain scales and he read 216lbs (gutted) I'm not sure how accurate it is but I'm sure it's close. Oh yeah, he was a 10 point! I still have a smile on my face today! Four days earlier an 8 point was taken of the same tree stand. Our group of three had a decent hunt, one 10 point, one 8 point and a doe. I'll post pictures as soon as I get them back. Talk about excitment.
Nothin' better than the second week of deer camp. |
RE: Ontario whitetail reports!
We went 6 for 6, I got a nice 8 point midday on the openner. We also took a nice 6 and a fork and 3 mature does. Got a quick glimpse of the one I was after right before he buried himself in a large dogwood swamp. Our group of 6 saw over 120 deer in 5 days of hunting,, we NEED surplus doe tags on the island. Also listen for a possible new Ontario record,, HUGE 16 point!
