Lucky Easterners
So I see Cabelas finally got smart and is planning to open a store in Montreal. Damn[:@]! There are so many out east in the US already, I would love it if we had one within 5 hours of here. Hopefully this is just the start of their expansion and out west is where they head next.

RE: Lucky Easterners
Yes JD, we love our Cabela stores! There's one about an hour and a half from where I live and I've been there five times since it opened. I'm like a kid in a candy shop!

Hey dont get me wrong i like Wholesale sports and all but it would be nice to have a huge store chain like Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops out west. Man i think i would make it my new home i wouldn't want to leave the store.

RE: Lucky Easterners
We are very fortunate to have a Cabela’s 2 hour south from Winnipeg. The one in East Grand Forks my be one of the smaller stores but at least it’s close...;)

WAHOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We so much need this here. There is really very little choice for good hunting equipment here in Quebec, especially waterfowl. I've been buying most of my stuff from the Cabelas website, so very welcomed news. |
RE: Lucky Easterners
I wonder if this will open up a Cabelas Canadian Mail order avenue? Unlike BPS in TO!! I hope so. I think cabelas would surely benefit from such a move!!!
We have a wholesale sports located here, the store here seriously lacks inmany facets but down right awefulin customer service. I do my best to support other business vs WS sports!!!! |
RE: Lucky Easterners
That is good news for me in the states too. Montreal is about 1 hour north of me. Hamburg, PA is a great store, but 7 to 8 hours away. A freind of mine is an assistant manager in Hamburg.

RE: Lucky Easterners
:Dheard from a guy at another site they are planning to build 2 here:):)I hope it's true!
|
RE: Lucky Easterners
The Cabelas store in Hamburg,Pa is HUGE! You really need a whole day to look at everything closely. The whitetail exibit is really something! If you can't find it at Cabelas, they don't make it.:D:D

RE: Lucky Easterners
If they build 2 I`m praying for Toronto because Bass Pro in Toronto are a bunch of ******! Their store is nothing like the stores in the US. Their selection is marginal at best and they won`t order in anything.[:@]I won`t shop there anymore, I`ll drive to Watertown and go to Gander Mountain.

RE: Lucky Easterners
Sorry Turk...supposed to be 2 in Ab. 1 in Lethbridge & 1 in Red Deer. But still unconfirmed!

RE: Lucky Easterners
The only Canadian store mentioned in the Cabela's web site is Montreal. No mention of size, but I have to beleive that it will be a big store. The Hamblurg, PA store is 250,00 sq ft, the Hartford, CN store is to be on the order of 180,000 sq ft. Some of the smaller stores are under 100,00 sq ft. If any of you are traveling I-81 in PA or I-95 in NJ it is worth a short trip on I-78 to Hampurg, PA.

RE: Lucky Easterners
cnile,
Cabelas doesn't mention anything on their website until the deal is done. There is also talk that they will be opening a store in Hooksett, NH but they aren't going to say anything until it's pretty far down the pipe just in case it doesn't happen. I have to admit, that I'm a bit surprised that their first location in Canada is in Quebec. I always thought that there were much higher bariers of entry into Quebec than other provinces. Toys R Us for example doesn't sell their wooden Thomas and Friends Trains here in Quebec because the label isn't translated. This issue cost me many a mile last Christmas, but that's another story. It will be curious to see if they translate their labels or if the pronvincial gov't backed off a bit on their requirements. I would have to assume it's the latter. Cheers, |
RE: Lucky Easterners
There is a Gander Mountain in Watertown? What are you guys finding the border is like these days. I've been keeping away until it cools down:eek:, been only once since 9/11, and I crossed without any trouble, but guys I know who go a lot are getting reamed periodically, and it is pretty easy to loose your lifetime rights if you make a small mistake, so I'm hoping that it will regularize again.
When will the new Cabela's open? I don't think the Canadian one will be any good. The same was true with Walmart, the Canadian stores sucked compared to the US stores. The difference with Walmart is they can adapt to the local market, there isn't any significant sized local market for sporting goods so developing Can suppliers etc... doesn't do you any good. As I said when they opened, there will be two good sales the going out of buisness sales from the competitors, and the their going out of business sale. |

RE: Lucky Easterners
After I posted I did a Cabela's search and came across the news release for the Hookset store, Plainfield (?), MA store and Scarborough, ME store.
The release also mentioned a Bass Pro Shop in Foxboro, MA. |
