im needing a scope for my rem 700 7mm rem mag wanting to stay around 150 or below. would like to get one with higher mag than 9x. do they make a scope in my price range like maybe a 6-18x40 or something like along that line that will actually be clear when zoomed in?

is bushnell scopes anygood?

There's an old adage that says, "you get what you pay for" which makes about as much sense when it comes to hunting optics as in anything else. $150 will buy you a decent scope, but also wanting a scope in high magnification at that price break will be very tough to do. Having owned a very large number of scopes over the years, it's my opinion that quality will trump higher magnification just about every time when it comes to seeing clearly and shooting well with it.

I'd much rather have a 2-7x32 of decent quality for $150 than have a 4-16x50 at the same price break. I can promise you that even within the same "Maker" the lower powered scope will allow you to purchase a higher quality scope which will mean more in the long run. Shots at big game and even at targets can be made easily at 250-300 yards with a good 2-7 scope and easily to 350+ with a decent 3-9. Another way to get the best(?) quality for your $$ is to look for close-out specials on sites known to have them, like SWFA or Natchez SS.

One more close-out special. FWIW, I purchased the now sold out 1.5-8x36 version of this one and was very pleasantly surprised at it's apparent quality. No, it's not a Zeiss in disguise, but it is far nicer than it's price reflected; so much so, I bought a 2nd. Excellent company warranty as well.

I'd suggest tripling your $150 to $450 and get a good scope. Face it, a $150 scope makes it a $150 rifle. If you can't hit the target what good is anything else. The 7mm Rem Mag is designed as more of a long range round. In order to use it effectively, you need good glass.

I have a Leupold on mine and if I ever replace it I'm going to look at Zeiss or Trijicon. But then, that's me.

Tnhunter444 and Wayspr have summed it up. Everyone has a budget they are constrained by. If you are truly limited to $150 then forgo the high magnification glass. I don't think you can get any high power glass that is clear for that money. Get a fixed power scope and then save up your money.
