You just gave me an idea! Iv'e purchased three scopes from my local gunstore [ 30 miles away], and although he has a decent selection of scopes, he hardly ever orders any in silver, says he never has a call for them. One of the reasons I had problems finding one for the .300 mag. So although my 700 in stainless will retain the all stainless look, my Ruger #1 in stainless with the laminated stock might look pretty spiffy with a matte black scope. It's a 45/70 and I'm thinking maybe a fixed power might be the way to go--Hadn't given it much thought, but one of the forum members posted some pics of his awhile back, in stainless with a black scope mounted and it looked good-----I guess I'm going into town tomorrow---John
