The 3200 is the best bang for your buck right now in riflescopes. That being said, if you can afford a little more, spend it. If your not shooting long range, 3-9 power will get it done. If you can spend 300 to 400 on a scope, there is a bunch of great scopes in this price range.

4.5-14 x 40 nikon buckmasters , or a 4 -16 x42 Monarch .... would be perfect, and the glass is plenty good for your needs without breaking the bank.

MET

You can buy a Bushnell Elite 3-9x40 4200 for the 250 dollar range. I myself own a T3 ss in 308

My answer to your question ... the "best" will be a top end scope. Something like a 1.5-6, 42 mm , 30 mm tube. These will set you back $1500 to $2000 or so. On a moderate budget? Look at the Zeiss Conquest. It is about $550-$650 and a great buy. For what you look like you are wanting to spend, don't leave out Pentax, Leupold, Nikon or Burris scopes in that price range.

zeiss makes a conquest with a reticle specifically for the .308 I believe, check it out....

I think a 3-9 would be pretty ideal.

You didn't say what your budget was, but the 4200 is a very nice scope. I'm partial to my Zeiss Diavari 3x12x56.
