I just ordered myself a early Easter gift!!! A Remington Model "Seven" XCR in .243!! Been wanting this gun for a year and found an offer I coundn't say no to!! Anyway... I now need to outfit this thing with a scope, this is gona be my go-to gun for coyotes, whitetails and other critters. I've been looking at the Leupold VX-L 3.5X10X50 and tring to convince myself that it's worth the price tag .... Any of you guys have this scope or have any good input??

I would go with the 4.5x-14x-40mm myself-a wider range of power,and you don't have to mount the scope so high,also why get a light model 7 then weigh it down with a bulky,heavy scope. Other scopes to consider are burris,weaver,nikon,etc. Leupold makes a featherweight series of scopes that won't weigh you down as well.

Good point!! I see the ultalight from leupold is only available in 33mm? I guess the search continues, any input is great, thanks for the help....

Take a good look at the Nikon Monarchs and buckmasters scope line. $ for $ ya can't beat them. The New Monarchs are nice. I have two of them. And yes, I have a Nikon on my Model 7.

For about equal (or less) cash than the VX-L, I'm sure you could find other options. Check IOR, Meopta Meostar R-1, and Zeiss Conquests. Also, as Michael T. said, the new Nikon Monarchs are nice as are the Sightron Big Sky units. They have a new hunter hold-over reticle that looks promising. Good luck with your selection.

I too vote for the Leupold 4.5x14-40 VXIII. Warne base, Burris signature series rings and you'll be set. You won't be dissapointed. If you don't want to spend the money on a VXIII try a 4-12 VXII. I think the VXIII is worth the extra $$. That general field of magnification is great for hunting!!

That vx-L is worth every penny! Unfortunatly for yoursetup I would have to agree that it might be a bit heavy, not to mention bulky for your gun. I agree a good 40mm would suit your gun better. Having shot a 243 for a long time, I think 4 - 12 power would be perfect.
