Leupold in Wal-Mart??

I was in the local Wal-Mart the other day and noticed a line of Leupold scopes in there, I think it was something like "Rifle Mountain?" Anybody have any info on these scopes?

The Rifleman series is Leupold's low end andmost economical scope. I think they were actually brought out for the discount market such as walleywurlds. For a few more dollars I would opt for the VX-I if I was on a budget.

I'm waiting to hear what the "it's sold at wal-mart and it's inexpensive so it must be junk" crowd has to say.

Its called the Rifleman, it, along with the VX-I are basically 1970's technology, at 2000's prices. Personally, if I was in the market for a ~$200 riflescope, I would buy a Nikon Buckmaster, or a Bushnell 3200. Click adjustments, Mulicoated optics yielding high light transmission, and a fast focus objective are important to me.

+1 and to top it off it doesn't even have a full gold ring:D

I looked for the VX rating # and didn't see one so was curious. I figured somebody on here would know the behind the scenes story. Thanks.

This is all you need to know about that scope.

[ol][*]Friction adjustments in an age where 60 dollar scopes come with a positive click[*]3 piece scope tube where 60 dollar scopes come with a one piece scope tube[*]Cheapest coating possible on a scope when 60 dollar scopes have better coatings[/ol]
A Nikon Pro staff scope or a Pentax Gameseeker would be a Bentley and these would be a Yugo would be avery fair comparison. Leupold and Walmart are laughing to the bank

Referring to the Nikon Bukmasters or the Bushnell 3200 ..... That should say ... Click adjustments, FULLY Multicoated optics for 92 % transmission, and a fast focus Occular ( eyepiece ) ... the objective is the big bell end and they are not fast focus BUT they do have the side focus objective now.....

Best scopes for the money are the Nikon Buckmasters.... The new Monarchs are also nice.... I got the 4-16 x 42 and a 5 - 20 x 44 a little over a month ago ...... and I got them for a super price, but $ for $ I would stick with the buckmasters.

But if you are looking for economy prices , or you are on a budget , look at the Nikon prostaff. There is not a lot of $ difference between the scopes, but some people have a set amount and can't go an extra 25 - 50 $ ..... so the prostaff is the next best bet.

I bought a rifleman for my brother on his 204. Has horrible glare. Coatings are very subpar. And I know a thing or two about coatings. Also never liked the friction adjustments on the old VariX II line, and hate them even more on the rifleman series.

In my opinion, its a poor scope. Only thing it has going for it is its warranty.

I would much rather have a 3200 3X9, for same or cheaper price. Superior coatings, one piece body, and no freaking friction adjustments.

If its sold at Walmart and ya buy from Walmart ya just poisoned your kids and at the same time fed 1 more Chinaman another years supply of rice and fishheads for him to chow down.....
There is no need for them to invade they'll just walk right in when none of us are left..........
