BURRIS FFII OR BUSHNELL ELITE 4200

is the bushnell elite 4200, a better scope than the burris FFII's I was also told that the one in. tube will only let in a maximum light of 44mm. I was told that I should by a 30mm,tube scope if I want a 50mm objective or I was told I would be wasting my money because the light transmission in the 1inch tube would be a maximum of 44mm.

I don't know about the Buris Fullfield II's or the Bushnell Elites, but I know about the Burris Euro-Diamand. It has the 30mm tube. Mine is a 2.5x10x44mm with the Ballistic Plex retical. I have it mount on my Remington 700xcr in 270wsm.I am really happy with it. It give plenty of light and cyrstal clear.I have heard alot ofbad mouthingon the Fullfield II.

timbercruiser, have you used the burris fullfield II's if so could you explain why the 4200 is better,I sure would appreciate it.............Ted.

RE: BURRIS FFII OR BUSHNELL ELITE 4200

I think bushnell has unfair advantage because the elite is best in bushnell line while burris top of the line would be black diamond or at least sig series. Compare apples to apples instead of apples to oranges.

RE: BURRIS FFII OR BUSHNELL ELITE 4200

stalkingbear,do they make a 30mm tube in the FFII's or do you have to buy the signature series to 30mm tube, one of my biggest qeustions was also on the light transmission,I wanted yo buy the FFII in the 3x9x50mm with a 1inch. tube,I was told the 50mm with one in. tube would only let in the light capacity of a 44mm with a 1in. tube I was told to get the full performance out of the 50mm I needed to get the 30mm tube but the price goes way higher to get the 30mm tube that was one of the qeustions of the 4200 being a better scope because it had the 30mm tube.

RE: BURRIS FFII OR BUSHNELL ELITE 4200

Burris don't to my limited knowledge make a fullfield 2 in a 30mm maintube scope. Humans have a pupil that on average expands to around 5mm in low light and 7mm in total darkness so all you need is 5mm exit pupil-anything bigger isn't needed and is uneccecary. For almost all normal hunting situations a 1" tube is all you need. To figure out how what the exit pupil on a scope, divide power into lens size mm. As in 8x into 40mm will have a 5mm exit pupil. Exit pupil in a scope is how big the scope image is.

stalkingbear,I know that your a gun smith and know one has actually answered my one critical qeustion about the 1in. tube if I buy a 50mm objective is it a waste of money I was told that the 1in. tube would only let in a maximum of 44mm of light transmission is this true...........Ted.

Bucksnort-I honestly don't know about light transmission with a 1" tube vs a 30mm tube. The person to ask would be bigcountry as he works in the industry and has forgotton more about the techinal side of scopes than I'll ever learn-same way I am on guns. I'm sorry I can't help ya more. I suggest you send bigcountry a pm and ask him.

Go to this link and take time to read it. There are a lot of optics professionals on there. They own and use a lot of scopes, know how they work and why. Most compare the 4200 with the Conquest. No I don't have a Burris, although I do have a 4200. I have shot a Burris a few times.

Save up another $100.00 and get the Burris Euro-Diamond that is a 30mm and you won't be sorry.

Although the FFII is a good scope, I'd have to rate the Elite 4200 as better. I have one on a 30-06 and it's been perfect.

RE: BURRIS FFII OR BUSHNELL ELITE 4200

I had a Burris Sig Series and 4200, to my eye they compared very well interms of low light performance. The bushnells overall optic picture was slightly better &power ring was easier to adjust. The Burris tracked better in POI adjustment and held POI. I let them both go to make roomfor the Zeiss Conquests, no regrets;)!

As far as the FFII I have spent some time behindthem &to my eye they compare closer to the 3200 Elite optically. I have had excellent performance from my 3200's and personally see really no need to buy anything else in this price/optics range. The fellows who own the FFII's are tickled with them and feel the same way. If I want/need more then the 3200I'll buy another Zeiss.

30mm vs 1" debate, if we are talking regular biggame hunting applications then optically I see no need to buy a 30mm. The only true benefit I can see with the 30mm having is more adjustments based on the slightly larger tube. As far as light transmission goes, quality of glass and coatings are what makes them bright in low light not objective size.Compare a FFII 50mm to a higher end scope 40mm, you'll see yourself. Quite simply if you want the best low light performer then buying a bigger bell will leave you wanting...

Good luck.

In my opinion the Bushnell Elite 4200 wins hands down. Try The Optic Zone. They have the best prices on Bushnells that I have seen.

Whoever told you that, doesn't know classical optics. And never has designed a lens before.

I have had both, and still have several 4200's and 3200's.

30mm's are great, but usually for me, I just don't buy them. A few reasons.

In US, hard to sell the 30mm's. 1" tubes are the standard. I wish it wasn't that way. rings are much more available for 1" tubes here. I do see that changing slowly however.

Second, its hard to tell if manufactures actually use 1" lenses inside the 30mm tube or real 30mm lenses. Unfortately Leupold does not. All the Euro scope do. You want to take advantageof that extra light, you got to fork out the cash.

Lastly, they cost about 20%-30% more.

I have one 30mm scope on a tactical gun, and thats it. How much light does one need? People should spend thier extra money on good binos instead. You can't glass around with a scope.

Fine choice you made that. That guy had some incredible deals on accuratereloading.com. I just didn't know to trust him or not. He had had 1.5-5 conquests for like 350 or less.

If you don't care, PM or post when you get it and let me know your satisfied.. I know there is alot of crooks out there.
