Default Bushnell Elite 3200 vs. 4200?

I plan on getting a Tikka 7mm-08 soon. I have looked at the Elite 3200 with the firefly reticle and the 4200, which I don't think is offered with the firefly, in a 3x9x40. The 4200 is about $60 more. Is the 4200 worth the extra money? I like the idea of the firefly reticle and it is too bad they don't offer it in the 4200 scope.
I'm also considering the Zeiss Conquest. I'm sure it is a much better scope, but I'm reluctant to spend closer to $400 for it. I was in a gun shop yesterday and the owner swore by the Zeiss.

On the SWFA optic site there are a number of scope experts that have the opinion that there isn't much difference in the quality of the 4200 and the Conquest and the Rainguard feature is a big plus. I bought a 4200 for my grandsons .243 and it is a very nice scope, very bright. I didn't see the 3x9 in Firefly, just the 2.5x10 and it was $400.

I'd say the 4200 would be your best bet. I have a 3-9 X 40 and like it alot.

The 3200's and 4200's are excellent. I myself do see a difference between them. I own several leupolds VX's and Vari X III's, a few ziess, and nikon monarchs and own 2 3200's and 1 4200's. And I would stack the 4200 against any of them.

If you take 20 4200s, conquests, or whatever and line them up on a counter, you are going to see variances. Some are going to be more clear than others. Believe me, making glass, or filters, is not an exact science. You have yields. And thats what you work with. Anybody that can claim that every ziess is clearer than every 4200 does not understand glass.

B.C. Let me ask you this. If both Bushnell 4200 2.5-10 x 40 and Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10 x 44 would be the same price would you still say that ?...

Good question. And you would guess right. I would pick name and reputation if the same price. I have more experience with conquests, and VariX III's. I have sent back and used the warranty on both and know what to expect with ziess and leupold. I only have around 1-2 years experience with elite series. And not had to send in either. So until I got some more experience under my belt with elites, I would pick the Ziess.

I have never looked through the 4200, but I have on the 3200, and I was not impressed at all. I personally would go with the Zeiss 3-9 x 40 Conquest. I recently got one from from theopticzone.com for $375 including shipping. Fantastic optics, and my eyes liked it much better than the Leupold VX IIIs. You should also look at the Sightron Big Sky's. They are really nice scopes and have alot on nice features including 'CLIMATECONTROL COATING' that's similar toBushnell's 'Rainguard'. I also bought my Sightron Big Sky 3-12 x 42mm from theopticzone for $406.00 including shipping. See my previous post regarding the Big Sky.

Don't let him force you to spend the $400 bucks for the Conquest. The 4200 is lovely and it really does compare up to the Conquest. I love the rainguard feature i think thats what threw the 4200 over the Conquest to me. About the glass yield, yes it is true but, in most cases there isn't a huge difference in all 20 if you compared.
