Jim,
Good to hear from you. I talked to Ken right after the first of the year. He told me that he had read the questionnaire and changed or added a couple of things. But he had it read to go out. He said he would send it to the people that shot the triple crowns and the worlds. He also said, he would have enough time to get it back before the next board meeting. I'm not sure when the meeting is, I think around the first of March. So we should be getting it anytime. Tell the rest of the guys to be looking for it. Randy Epling

Hello Jim and Randy
I was also woundering about that questionaire , I was told it was going to be out back in Jan. so we could get them back to ibo .I hate to be negitive , but if it is anything like that meeting we had at snowshoe with Ken a couple years ago , about rule changes for RU and trad. He just walked out of there with no intentions of doing anything we said , so we probley just get more smoke up our you no what. You guys know how it is ,recurves and longbow guys dont pay
the bills. we our just stump shooters. Most of the bow guys out there dont even realize that stick bows have been around for thousands of years , so if it wasent for stickbows there wouldent be a ibo . Its the same in asa , the nfaa is about the only one around that dosent forget how archery got started well enough wind for one day

Yep, that is exactly what I was thinking. We set that meeting up on the busiest day and time that we ever have. Especially at the worlds. And it was just to not pay any attention to what was said.

The questionaire is to be mailed the 4th of Feb.... The board meeting is Mar.6th.
Sort of timely ain't it.

What is the problem with the rules the way they are????? I heard some talk at the worlds that some guys in the ru class didn't like the extra 5 yards...is this the problem??? I don't think 35 yards is really that far, I mean field archery / Fita the barebow classes shoot 70 meters & 90 meters! 35 yards isn't asking alot. And if you still don't like it move down to the hunter class, pretty easy fix. Our class isn't that big, I don't see the IBO needing to go to the trouble of having to set an extra stake at every shoot for the RU class. And if the 3DI starts to grow in popularity how are we gonna be able to compete if we don't shoot the yardage the way it is and if we can't use the shooting method of our choice wether that be stringwalkin, gap shooting, gun barreling, instinctive , whatever. I don't know what rule changes are wanted in the other classes, and don't really need to know them, I enjoy shooting the RU class and that is the only class I am concerned with. I would really like to know what rules you guys want changed and why???
Thanx
J. Smith

Every year some group will invariably call for new rule changes because they aren't doing so well with the existing rules. We want to exclude people who don't shoot wooden arrows.... we want to exclude people who don't shoot off a shelf... we want to exclude metal risers.... none of th is three-fingers under cheating stuff.... Arrows should have to be 500 grains or more.... bows should have to be "hunting weights"..... It's not fair the other guy is using a stabilizer.... Oh MY GAWD, he's stringwalking... Hey, I just saw him anchor a half inch lower than he did on the last shot!

Things have come a long way since the late 80's when the first Worlds was held at Triangle Lakes Archery n Middletown, Ohio and everyone shot from the same stakes except the cubs. I hear more complaining now about 35 yards from recurve shooters today than I did when the targets were out to 60 yards and sometimes more. The longbow shooters are excluded because there weren't any then.

Anyone who feels the RU class is unfairly long now has the Traditional Recurve class shooting off a shelf at the cub stakes to migrate to. I see no reason why the 35 yard max is outrageous considering it's only 2 yards more than the International shooting standard for recurves and longbows. I also see no reason why the US standard should exclude any type or style that is internationally competitive. There aren't enough people who show up at these shoots to merit a different class for every possible variation of equipment and style anyone can dream up and more classes isn't going to improve the turnout. I've seen rule changes occur virtually every year and attendance doesn't do anything but go down and the more classes, the fewer there are in each class. It sounds like people won't be happy until everyone has a class of their own. It's a new age sensitive new age thing.

Ken already addressed what I thought was the most important take-away from last year by far; A contingency plan so people who spent a lot of time and money coming down to compete will get to compete on all 40 targets (or 50 if they're in the top bracket). The rest of the diverse needs of the minute traditional element of this game will never stop, it seems.

What I think we should be really concerned with is getting turnout and attendance and stabilizing some rules so they're consistent from year to year and even between organizations. This game just can't go too far as long as every organization including International organizations all have different standards. Once those two things get resolved, maybe the traditional aspect of this can be revitalized. Until then, I wouldn't be surprised if Ken trashcans the whole traditional end of things because of all the headaches he goes through to satisfy a group that is very fortunate to put up more than 50 shooters for all three classes combined.

I dont have any problem with the rules though I think it would be smart to remove the word "TRAD" or "Traditional" from the rules and just use "Longbow" and "Recurve" because of the conflict this word causes between shooters.

Hey that sounds good to me, or we could just call the RU class - Barebow!!! I'm pretty sure Barebow is the class definition of most other country's and our own FITA and NFAA classes with the same equipment.

Hey Ken
If you would have been paying attention at the worlds ,on the busiest
day of the year ,you would have heard that 95% of the folks there didnt
want to change the rules . You then would have not changed anything . So next time you our paying attention on the busiest day of the year, that (you )had the meeting on, you will listen to 95%
