I'm 16 and i can't shoot in the 15-17 youth group because of my poundage. I think that at the age 15 you should be able to shoot 70lbs, I think it will make the competition a little bit better.

Well, if your worried about the level of competion, maybe you should just shoot MBO. You can shoot your 70# bow there, ha ha. Or, you can just shed some unneeded poundage and shoot with your age group. No one is forcing you to shoot in the youth classes.

My son was shooting 70 to 80 lbs. when he was 16 ,just to get the speed back in 1992. He would turn his bow down for IBO. Why beat yourself up shooting high poundage?
My thoughts on the poundage is that not all 16 years olds can draw 70 lbs plus. And why rush moving up to the adults classes, you will have many years to compete as an adult.

With todays arrows and efficient speed bows, there is no need to shoot the high poundage for targets. I would guess the percentage of adult shooters shooting 70 lbs is small. The competition is tough enough at all levels regardless of the poundage the shooters are pulling.
My advice would be to find an arrow for 55-60 lbs and don't abuse your bodies growing muscles too much.

guys 1'm 6'2 240lbs i can bench press 150 i don't i have to worry about messing my muscles shooting 70lbs

guy04 being 6'2 you should have at least 30" or over of draw you dont need to shoot high poudage to get arrow speed with the right arrow spine and weight matched to the poundage and draw length. im 5'11 84kgs i used to shoot 76lbs and last year i had a shoulder recostruction NOT FUN there's no need to be a heman if you drop your poundage you'll probably hold and aim steadier dont knock yourself around while tou are still growing no offence intended

150 pound bench press? I hope that's a typo! My senior year in high school I shot a Jennings Super Sonic XL at 94#. I didn't gain anything. Now I look back and see how stupid it was, that was only 6 years ago. That settup did 260 feet per second with a 2512 and a 100 grain glue in. Now with todays bows, I can get the same speed with only 63#. Save your shoulder for more important things, like high school baseball!!

Hello Archery Guy,
Why do you shoot 70lbs? Are you trying to be like your father? Maybe you should lower your poundage and shoot in your age group. I think your father would be just as proud of you, it will be awhile before you can shot as good or better then he does anyway!!!!!!!!!
