Question on shooting class changes/ Judy,Ken, anyone
If you win your way out of a class for example,Open A to Semi-Pro in the ASA ,do you automatically have to shoot Semi-Pro in the IBO? I know the ASA says if you shoot Semi-Pro in the IBO you have to shoot SP in the ASA also. Couldn' t find anything in the rule book. thanks

Hoyt Man - Yes you would have to shoot Semi in IBO. I copied the following from the IBO rules:
SEMI-PRO FEMALE (SPF) A compound, recurve or long bow with or without a sight. If a sight is used, it can be fixed pins, moveable sight, and scope or laser type sight and may be shot with a glove, finger tab, bare fingers or with some type of release aid. Pay back will depend on the number of participants. Any person competing in this class must be an I.B.O. member prior to shooting. Any person that registers as a semi-pro during the IBO shoot year, can subsequently move to a pro class, but cannot then move back to an amateur or semi-pro class for that IBO shoot year. Must be shot from the blue stake with a maximum of 50 yards, approx. SEMI-PRO MALE (SPM) A compound, recurve or longbow with or without a sight. If a sight is used, it can be fixed pins, moveable sight, and scope, or laser type sight. May be shot with a glove, finger tab, bare fingers or with some type of release aid. Pay back would depend on the number of participants. Any person competing in this class must be an I.B.O. member prior to shooting. n23d,
Thanks for the reply but this rule doesn' t answer my question. I know you have to stay in semi-pro if you start out there. My question is if you shoot semi-pro in the ASA do you automatically have to in the IBO? |

Does it say this in the IBO rule book? The way it stands now then, the ASA dictates what class you shoot in the IBO. Shouldn' t we in the IBO have our own rules on moving up in class such as 2 top 10 finishes in a national event in the same year? The way it is now, if a guy only shoots the IBO he can be national champ. every year in MBO and never have to move up to Semi-Pro. If he shoots ASA and IBO, he' s must move up in the IBO as soon as he moves up in the ASA. |

Another cut & paste job from the rules: PRO AND SEMI PRO CROSSOVER
All shooters that register as semi-pro or pro competitors in any 3-D shooting organization shall be recognized as the same in the I.B.O. Any person that does not register as the same semi-pro or pro at an I.B.O. event will be considered to be acting in an un- sportsmanlike manner and subject to Penalty under rule 28. |
RE: Question on shooting class changes/ Judy,Ken, anyone
If the IBO shooting year has ended You may register in any class that you would like to according to the rules. Once you regiester in SP or Pro next year then you must stay in that class for the remainder of the IBO shooting year. Everyone is starting from scratch when the shooting year ends. ASA classes are more defined than the IBO and require your to move to a higher class after winning so many dollars (I believe). If this is not the correct reading of the rules I would like to have someone give me their interpatation of the rules. This year 2004 the best place to shoot if you are interested in winning the most money will be the shooter of the year money in a few of the classes now that they include Cleveland. In Cleveland they had 33 SemiPro shooters and 399 MBO shooters which means that MBO pot will have $698. more for the same number of shooters. but you will have to spend more to go down south to qualify. GOOD LUCK

Don' t ya just love this copy & paste stuff? ;)
17. The I.B.O. shoot calendar is defined from World Championship to World Championship. If someone registers in Semi or Pro now, that is where they' ll shoot for the next year.:D |
RE: Question on shooting class changes/ Judy,Ken, anyone
We still have the fact that the ASA dictates when you move up in the IBO. The IBO has no requirement of it' s own to move out of MBO. A guy can shoot his whole life in the MBO( no mater how many times he wins) and not have to move up if he doesn' t shoot the ASA. The IBO is relying on the ASA to move shooters up in class. Shouldn' t the IBO have it' s own requirments to move shooters up in class.

RE: Question on shooting class changes/ Judy,Ken, anyone
When the rule regarding semi and pro classification was implemented, you could shoot 3-D in Cabela' s ,NFAA, ASA, and IBO. It was implemented the way it is to prevent shooters from dropping down into a class for the purse' s.(ie:the IBO World) I am presently not sure how this will play out in the near future,I have been told that another organization will not have the semi-pro classes for 04. It is a rumor at this point and we will have to look at that situation as it unfolds. ken12 |
