Default Heart Broken at Snowshoe

Hey everyone,

This posting is a little different then most. My reasoning for posting is simply to ask everyone to send words of encouragement to my Daughter. On Sunday afternoon my Daughter and her Dad went to the Shavers Center to check the postings for the Cub Class after the shoot-offs. On this posting she was listed in 10th place. She was so excited & proud of her accomplishments in receiving an award. We went down and sat on the lawn for the awards to be given out and when Ken called the 10th place person it was not her. It seems that there was a mistake with the scores. She was completely heart broken. We try so hard to keep her interested in Bow Shooting and when this happened she was crushed! This was her first IBO shoot and it will be very easy for her to get discouraged with the system if she doesn' t receive encouragement from other shooters. My family had a wonderful time at Snowshoe and look forward to attending next year.

God Bless!

I am sorry for what happened and I hope that your daughter sticks with shooting her bow.
I know it is hard to tell them to keep their chin up when they are dissapointed.

To even be that close to being in the finals in only her first IBO shoot is doing great! Experience at these type events does help. and experience at the particular location helps, too. I' ve been shooting tournaments for many, many years and still learned some things at the Worlds last year that helped me a little this time. If I come back next year, I' ll expect to be a little better at the difficult angles and lighting conditions than I was this year, and a little more comfortable with the whole aura of the event. The scoring mixup that caused the surprise lowered placement was unfortunate and must have been a great disappointment, but she should still be very proud of doing as well as she did, especially on her first trip to Snowshoe. Hope she stays with it, it' s a great sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime, and with family of all ages, whether one is serious about the competitive aspects or not.

J.Doyle,
That is awesome. This is the attitude and example that we need to set forth. I have a 5 year old and 14 year old daughter. They both shoot (the older one only at times) and I can truly relate to the difficulties in keeping the interest level there. Anyway, I commend you in your efforts to encourage shooting.

Let' s remember, when we don' t succed to our expectations it only leaves us room to improve.

Have a GREAT DAY

Hey everyone! Thanks so much for the words of encouragement. The emails are greatly appreciated. Shauna is even more determined now to practice practice practice! Hope to see everyone next year at Snowshoe, if not before! Thanks again, Chris

Shawna,

Congratulations on a job well done. Most shooters never finish that high. You have a lot to look foreward to, so keep shooting. Have fun and you have already made new friends.
