It would be interesting to know how many new competitors this class has created in the last three years vs. how many archers have not left the IBO because the class was initiated. This class is estableshed and should be allowed to continue to grow. If we must have a beginners class let the new class have a new title and specific rules that will make a hero out of a shooter who is just beginning as a competitor. Just prior to the World is not the time to be re-hasshing this old subject. A class this big cannot be all wrong. If anything has happened that was a mistake making this class, the IBO should make a bunch of the same mistakes in the near future.
When the BOD has their annual meeting and the subject is discussed, I think that it will be dealt with based on what the majority of the shooters want and not what a few people on the Forum think is right or wrong. Numbers make this organization go and the numbers for the HC are proof positive and if we drive people away it could become a large negative. Hunters are hunters and for the most part are not interested in being competitive. In New York State there may be 25000 3D shooters but there are over 125000 bowhunting stamps sold each year. The majority of the hunter class may have come from the ranks of the IBO but the potential for additional shooters has not even been scratched.
A NOVICE class Could solve part of the problem if it were outlined completely before being installed into the class system. The Hunter Class is out of the bottle so lets not dwell on an unintended success.

I just received, and read, the latest edition of Bowhunting World.
I shoot in the hunter class and didn' t find anything that Ken said to be offensive in any way.
I don' t give a rats backside about the amount of money I may win if I were ever to win the thing. Winning would be the reward in itself. I have often believed that as soon as you attach money to something you enjoy, it takes the fun out of it - that' s why I live at the same place I work.

Ken, I thing you have the right idea. It shouldn' t take a 412 to win the HC. Maybe the IBO should consider an all trophy HC, with the top 10 finishers in the triple crowns end standings being asked to move up a class the following year. Most of these super shots could have the same results no matter the equipment or yardage the shoot from, It' s just God given talent!!!! For me, the HC is my comfort zone, I know I' ll never win the class, but just love to shoot! It' s the largest class because we are member of the International " BOWHUNTING" Organization.
Happy shooting to all !!! See you on the mountain!

I hope you got my e-mail ken , I have been in the ibo since the beginning and I am a weekend shooter who just shot a 415 with 19 X' s at the 2nd leg of the triple crown and the way i see it is Mr. Watkins would like to see me move up to probably MBR so i need to leave my short stabilizer, my 4" fletched arrows, I will have to spend more time judging distance than doing the shooting that i like,I will have to shoot against long stabilizers and i think they can put a power lense in their sight, I placed 23rd in the triple crown in HC so all of you probably judge me like ken does, but if i told you that i shoot about 1 3-d a month, practice 1-2 times a week for a half hour from april to july do you still think you should judge us by what the scores are,I DON' T THINK SO am I bitter yes. The friends i shoot with are having fun and i don' t want to see any more bad changes by the ibo, It' s time to ask us what we want. What do you want Bob? I would like to see all short stabilizers again what a stupid idea for a hunting organization to have 3 feet stabilizers in the woods. I would like to see MBR(money class) be moved back to 40 yards and have the same rules as Hunter Class, Hunter Class(awards)moved back to 30 yards keeping the same rules. i think this would split the classes and then i would move up to MBR. 2003 triple crown HC 1005 shooters / MBR 486 shooters. I shoot with 5 other men who agree with these changes.Thank you for your time, BobK

Thanks for sharing Bob, now that you' ve got that off of your chest lets take a look at what you suggest.
The moves for stake yardages are somewhat more complicated than you imply. While moving the HC to the white stake and changing its yardage to 30 yards would cut 5 yards from your shooting max, it would add 5 yards to 6 other classes, namely CUB, HR, FTRD, MTRD, PCBH, YTRD. Moving the MBR class to the yellow stake and changing its distance to 40 yards would decrease the MBR distance while increasing the distance for RU, YMR 13-14, YMF, and YF. Now as far as bad changes go, increasing the distance for 10 classes in order to decrease it for 2 just does not make sence. Additionally, since in Erie, HC posted 65 participants shooting 400 or better, it would hardly appear to need a step closer in yardage.
I like my stabiliser just like it is. While I would not choose to take it in a hunting blind, I also don' t really feel " stupid" while using it to enhance my shooting performance on a 3D course.
I really am glad you visited the forum, Bob, and am sorry to hear your bitter. Truth be told, however, shooting a 415 would leave very little to be bitter about for me. I suppose I could see a possible cause being 22 other people who could possibly compete in MBR and chose not to, but then I' m sure they like it right where they are too. I truely value the opinions of yourself and the 5 friends you shoot with, but in my opinion rearranging 12 classes to accomodate the 6 of you seems on the surface unwarrented.

I think we ought to put tree stands at every target and make the guys in the hunter class wear camo(scent blocker of course)and shoot broadheads!
3-D is target archery,not hunting!
I wish there were enough classes that even I might win.
See everyone at Snowshoe!!! [8D]
