Bowtech_shooter, how can Ken and the other IBO officials say that 8.5X binoculars are legal, when it states in the IBO Rules,

<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face='Verdana, Arial, Helvetica' size=2 id=quote>

Don't ask me how or why, I was just going by what I was told. I was pretty ticked when they put a limit on the binocular powers as it was. I had just bought a pair of 10 pwr. a few months before they made this rule...

It has been said it's legal so, like I said I'm getting a pair of 8.5 pwr. Swarovski's

BowTech_Shooter - You'll be happy with that purchase. Best money I've spent on binos. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

RE: IBO Binocular rule

Sorry I have not been able to respond to all this mis-information sooner! I've been gone and when I got back my computer no longer functioned with the old pass words.
As a point of reference, in many of the rules there is a margin of grace. 280-288, 4&quot; will allow 3.75, etc.
In this instance the 8.5's are allowed.
I had an opportunity two years ago to have a demonstration of equipment that measures magnification. It was at the Springnationals in Fla. Pretty neat. They wanted to bring it to the World's to check equipment. Now that would make a line to stand in. But I suppose we could do random checks and all the finalists.
Suffice all this to say the tolerences held for magnification on many optics are not exceptionally close.

The company was there to preview an upscale line of optics they were bringing out. That was Pentax. Not one pair was 8.5x.
This past fall we were told that if we changed the rules by the logic of a particular company they would give a Diamond level sponsorship. The board did not consider it.
The same as when the rule was originally changed. Much of the info provided was by several optics makers. They agreed with the problem for our game. BUT, when the board made the change we DID lose a major sponsor. Other organisations did not make the change and kept the sponsor. That was their choice.
But the IBO board made a decision based upon the information that they had available to curtail a way to measure distance to a point that a significant advantage was gained by the person with the optics capable of this process.
Mr. Doyle your reference was about as out of line as any I have read in a long time. Do you think that the board would change the rules to accomodate four sets of binoculars donated for the Bowhunter Defense Ranges? That's beyond silly.
When I see you Friday I am going to give you a dollar.Make sure to ask me what it is for!
