IBO Binocular rule
Will I be able to use my Minox 8.5 power in an IBO tournament or will the extra .5 make them unusable under the 8 power maximum rule?
|
RE: IBO Binocular rule
I would dare say under the 8 power rule you wont be allowed to used them.

RE: IBO Binocular rule
I guess if you want to get DQ'd - go for it

RE: IBO Binocular rule
than if i use a 8.5x i should get dq'd also 8.5 is greater than 8
|
RE: IBO Binocular rule
That's right bowman1; if they ignore this rule and get away with it, then it's a free-for-all on any binocular power.
Bowtech_shooter, how can Ken and the other IBO officials say that 8.5X binoculars are legal, when it states in the IBO Rules, Section: Use Of Binoculars: C. Binoculars (hand held) will be allowed with a maximum of 8X magnification per manufacturers specification. That means in plain english, that nothing, not even a .5X over an 8X is allowed. n23d, I don't understand how you can say that, if you are an IBO official. Are you saying this hoping to benefit a select few, a binocular company, or maybe both? Nothing over an 8X is allowed! It says that in the IBO Rules. Even if this topic that you remember so well, was discussed last year, it obviously was not changed. As this rules stands now, it is not allowed! And, if anyone is using anything above an 8X, they would have to be disqualified! |
RE: IBO Binocular rule
The reason I remember it so well is that I had just paid roughly $1100.00 for a pair of binos, guess what? 8 power. I later found out that 8.5 were allowed.

I was pretty ticked when they put a limit on the binocular powers as it was. I had just bought a pair of 10 pwr. a few months before they made this rule... It has been said it's legal so, like I said I'm getting a pair of 8.5 pwr. Swarovski's |
RE: IBO Binocular rule
BowTech_Shooter - You'll be happy with that purchase. Best money I've spent on binos.

RE: IBO Binocular rule
Sorry I have not been able to respond to all this mis-information sooner! I've been gone and when I got back my computer no longer functioned with the old pass words.
As a point of reference, in many of the rules there is a margin of grace. 280-288, 4" will allow 3.75, etc. In this instance the 8.5's are allowed. I had an opportunity two years ago to have a demonstration of equipment that measures magnification. It was at the Springnationals in Fla. Pretty neat. They wanted to bring it to the World's to check equipment. Now that would make a line to stand in. But I suppose we could do random checks and all the finalists. Suffice all this to say the tolerences held for magnification on many optics are not exceptionally close. The company was there to preview an upscale line of optics they were bringing out. That was Pentax. Not one pair was 8.5x. This past fall we were told that if we changed the rules by the logic of a particular company they would give a Diamond level sponsorship. The board did not consider it. The same as when the rule was originally changed. Much of the info provided was by several optics makers. They agreed with the problem for our game. BUT, when the board made the change we DID lose a major sponsor. Other organisations did not make the change and kept the sponsor. That was their choice. But the IBO board made a decision based upon the information that they had available to curtail a way to measure distance to a point that a significant advantage was gained by the person with the optics capable of this process. Mr. Doyle your reference was about as out of line as any I have read in a long time. Do you think that the board would change the rules to accomodate four sets of binoculars donated for the Bowhunter Defense Ranges? That's beyond silly. When I see you Friday I am going to give you a dollar.Make sure to ask me what it is for! ken12 |
