RE: looking for the ulimate 3-d bow
Redneck,
I'm also waiting to see what Mathews is coming out with. I just posted a similar question on Archery Reviews in reference to 2003 Mathews. I'll be watching for replys. I will shoot it if Mathews makes it. Good Luck, J. Shoot Searching |
RE: looking for the ulimate 3-d bow
Nobody has mentioned it yet, but I have not found a more foregiving, consistant or smoother bow for 3D then my Mathews conquest2. I just set up my new bow; a 03 Ultratec cam1/2. Decisions, decisions. I use a long Montana Black Gold sight with PSE Fineline pins, Scott Itty Bitty Goose and a 24 inch Super Stick. This combo is working great for me.
PS. The Ultratec is about 10 ft faster then I thought it would be. 28 inch DL, 62lb, 310 grains = 291fts <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> Fred |
RE: looking for the ulimate 3-d bow
WHuffman, saying that your bow dosen't let arrows loose energy down range like other bows defies all laws of physics! All arrows of equal weight and speed will loose energy at exactly the same rate no matter what bow you are shooting.

RE: looking for the ulimate 3-d bow
I would highly recommend taking a real serious look at PSE new Archery Research line. Their website is going public on Jan 8th. It is www.archeryresearch.com. A picture of it, and some preliminary info show up on pg. 45 of the new January issue of Inside Archery magazine(dealer only mag), however for those of you that are not a dealer, go to www.archerytalk.com, and click on to the "manufacturers' section">>>then just look for the "archery Research" thread. There is a picture of it on one of the posts. It really looks "awesome" !!!

RE: looking for the ulimate 3-d bow
I've been shooting the same CSS bow for about 5 years now and still love to shoot it. It's a 42" Challenger. And yes it do'es tend to carry down range better than some of the other bow I have had. I think a lot of it has to do with the way the bow stores the energy and how well it is exzerted though the arrow. I've seen bows that were faster and not do as well at longer yardage. Every machine has it's limits but it's how well it operates. I know about the law of physics but in some cases carbons carry better down range at the same grains and speed as alumiums because they react faster and store energy better. The tubs on Indy cars were built out of alumium but could not take the force of an impact that carbon could.I not saying that CSS is any better, some of the PSE's ,Mathews and others had bows that did the same thing. As far as what was said about yardage or form why would speed be important if it don't group. A bow thats fast but shoots groups the size of the ten ring at 50 yards is usless, you never know if you missed judged or if it's just the way the bow groups at that yardage. And set up right the bowtect will shoot tight groups I'm not saying they won't, but they were saying that speed is whats important and if you can't place the arrow were it needs to go than it makes judging yardage that much more difficult. As for mine it shoots at 305 fps at 29" at IBO, and groups tight at 50 yards and I love to shoot it indoors to on 300 rounds average 55-x's with it.
Check them all out but don't let speed be the the rule of the roost. I own a bow shop and can get about any thing I want but I picked this bow up a year after getting the dealership and was shocked at how well they shot and how well I shot with it. They are the 3rd most winningest bow in 3-D and the least known in the bow hunting world. My spelling sucks. Take look at whats out there and find whats best for you. |
RE: looking for the ulimate 3-d bow
Good Bow for 3-D will be in the following range of Characteristics:
Axle to Axle Length= 36-40" ; Brace Height: 6.5-7.5" range ; Ibo Speed 300 - 315. These caracteristics will give a really good combo of speed and accuracy. Good luck. |
RE: looking for the ulimate 3-d bow
all bows mentioned are quality bows, for me its DARTON. i shoot a DARTON RAIDER,MAVERICK,& RAMPAGE. they are quick, quiet, and forgiving. and also have an excellant 3 string CPS single cam system (minus the raider).my 2 cents
