This past year was my first year at snowshoe. Understand that I had a great time and plan to attend next year as well.
However, I was dissapointed at the lack of local culture. On those rare occasions when I travel to distant parts of the country I like to enjoy the local culture. Snowshoe is in the heart of bluegrass country, yet there was none to be heard.
I know little about other aspects of that regions culture, but would like to experience more of it.
My suggestion for next year is include some bluegrass music, perhaps before and after the fireworks display. There were a lot of people standing, waiting for the fireworks. I'm sure they too would have enjoyed some local music. Serve local foods someplace, etc.
The music I heard at Snowshoe was rap and the same stale country music I can hear on at least five local radio stations.
Again, I want to make clear that I had a great time and was impressed with how well organized the entire event was, but it was lacking in local flavor.

I AGREE, I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE A FEW MORE SIGNS POSTED ON THE MAIN ROAD ON THE MOUNTAIN TO GUIDE THE FIRST TIMERS EASILY TO THEIR COURSES. THIS SEEMED TO BE A PROBLEM FOR ME THE FIRST DAY BECAUSE SOME OF THEM (CHECK-IN STATIONS) WERE TUCKED AWAY AMID BUILDINGS AND WILDERNESS, OTHER THAN THAT, I HAD A GREAT TIME.

I don't mean to disagree with you but I too shot in the World at Snowshoe this year. I shot in the HC and I live right at the base of snowshoe and have for all of my life. I have to say that I have heard very little bluegrass music ever. I don't feel that is really the "culture" but I do understand not wanting to listen to rap. I can understand wanting to listen to music and get more of the culture but I would not say that bluegrass is the culture by any means. The best way to experience it would be to visit places like cass railroad I guess.

Rustywreck,
I to would like to see them hire a good Bluegrass band to play outside the vender area.
Next year go a little early or stay late and go ride the Cass senic railway,Its only a few miles away and worth the trip and they have long and short rides.
