RE: 2003 Shooter of the Year Program

I don't believe that most of the shooters who are spending their money for Nationals & Worlds go to these events to hone & practice their skills. Most of them can do that at various clubs closer to their home & pay a lot less to practice. Sure, we all go for the fun, but, I think most people, including me is in HC/FHC because we are not good enough as of yet at the longer ranges. When we get better then we will move up. So why should we be penalized for just starting out? We sure aren't going to start out at the longer ranges & lose all of our arrows & look ridiculous. Why in the world would the IBO allow the better shooters to move back down to the HC? To me, it's quite simple: don't let the shooters who have a high score that is in a class above HC move back!! (I'm sure you can come up w/ a number; say anyone who shoots a 380 or higher) The people that shoot HC/FHC deserve the same treatment & awards as all the other classes!! What in the world is the trophy class for?! The archers in HC/FHC pay the same entry fees & have to qualify the same; so we should get the exact same benefits!!
The certificates are a nice idea & should be given out in all classes, except the trophy class.
As for the SOY program, I think the same shooters who win their classes to begin with, will also win SOY. Us members will just be paying extra to give those shooters more money. (By the way,is IBO going to put any of their profit towards this?) We already have a winner for each class!

Fastfletch, you're right, somewhere along the way you must have missed it. If you look in the yearbook that you recieved when you became a member, you will see a list of state representatives for the IBO. They pretty much come from all across the states. Find them, familiarize yourself with who they are. Many times they are the eyes and ears of the organization. They are and have been in the field talking and listening to members, clubs, shops, and communities to evaluate what is working and what still needs to be done. Further, on multiple occaisions Ken has made it clear that you are free to call or stop in the office to get whatever information you need. He has also extended several invitations for anyone wishing to invest the time to become a state rep.

Communication, however, is a two way street. This thread is just one example where communication, even when it is tried, just simply fails. There are reasons why they have not extended SOY into the youth or HC. Those reasons have been given. Some individuals fail to recognise this, and because the reasons don't conform to their personal beliefs, or because they weren't personally consulted, that decision must be wrong. Timeing, if you want to critisize anything is all important. I have found the various board members and representatives very receptive to ideas when approached properly. But lets look at this. This is a new program, just inacted this fall to extend the award across the classes. To me it is obvious that the intent was to try to <dare I say it> level the playing field. But instead of thanks for the effort thats a step in the right direction, I'm reading, it wasn't done my way so its wrong.

My opinion is that this is the format we have for this year. Lets play it out and see how things go. Meanwhile, communicate with your state reps or with the IBO office. That is why they are all there. But in doing so, if you or anyone else really wish to "communicate", you will have to learn to listen to the answers, and be willing to give them the same validity that you would wish for your own.

These are just the thoughts and opinions of one IBO member.

Bluejacket is pretty well informed. Probably as good as anyone.
One of the reasons is that he asks questions. Many of the state reps are well informed. Some are not as well informed as they could be.
Information has been sent to the state reps concerning the direction for the HC's.
I'pretty well informed about that. I sent it.

BowPro: I was wondering why the southern triple crown was included in the soy, and not the indoor worlds or the World shoot itself. The southern shooters have to love that, however i and many of the hard core shooters from Western Pa do not like it. I am not complaining i love the idea of a soy, just have questions on why the southern tc was included when it has such a little turn out. The IBO seems to be more for the northern shooter as the ASA it more of a southern shooter. So my question is basicaly why make it so difficult for the northern shooter to qualify for the SOY. You have to figure the southern tc takes place before most Northern shooter can even shoot outside, let alone be ready for a major championship. So if your going to include the Southern tc why not the indoor worlds and the World championship to give the Northern shooters a good shot a SOY.

Expert,
I asked the same question in another thread earlier this fall and the response was that Indoor Worlds in Cleveland has a specific number of shooting times thus everyone that wants to shoot can't. I guess it's different for those shooters who want to shoot the STC and can't because they live so far away. The reason behind not including the World Championships is that is when and where the SOY's will be given out.

For many of us,the number of shoots that we can attend is limited. But at least we have the possibility to attend one of the Southern Triple Crown or the Winternationals, and making th efour shoots. If we included Cleveland the possibilty does not exist for many of us to attend. Not enough slots, cannot get a slot. No slot exists.
But at least including the four it is possible to get the fourth event shot. Some will attend all seven events looking to get their four best scores.
Best thing, no lines no waiting, Sorry poor joke.
The National Championship Host Clubs have taken steps for 2003 to address that issue. I believe these steps will take care of about all of the problem.

ken 12: I do not want to exclude the southern tc, i only wanted to add the cleveland shoot and the world, in order to make more shooters elegible for the over all.

I AGREE WITH AE ON THIS ONE, I KNOW ITS PROBABLY SELFISH, BUT THOSE ARE THE ONLY SHOOTS I ALONG WITH OTHERS WILL BE ABLE TO ATTEND, THOSE BEING THE NAT. TC AND INDOOR AND OUTDOOR WORLD. BUT, WAIT A MINUTE, IM PROBABLY GOING TO SHOOT HC THIS YEAR, SO IT DOESNT REALLY MATTER FOR ME. BUT I STILL THINK ADDING THOSE WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA.

wildarcher - I think you are confusing Nationals, where there were not enough youth finger shooters, and the Worlds. At Worlds all youth classes received awards, the YMF class had 4 archers and all 4 received payback - same as PCBH. At worlds, everyone that qualifies or participates in the final round (Sunday shoot-off) gets a payback, in each of the classes mentioned - all would qualify for that.

This is only my opinion on the PCBH on a local level. The way it stands now, I can't shoot anything local. (Maybe one course, Dundee, because half way brings you back to the parking lot and I can leave). Would Adams Conservation club set up a course for me on flat, level ground so I can come shoot? Do they have the extra targets layin' around? You ask what qualifies someone for this class, I believe that is a fine line - what do you want medical records? I can only speak for myself, it was a difficult decision to make - shoot PCBH or not shoot at all . . . and as you well know, I opted to play the game that I love so much.
This is my opinion and nothing official.
